Hi there,

I do not fly often, last time was eight years ago when I was much younger. I was just wondering if it is possible to choose your seats online or such before you check in at the airport? I have a booking reference but apart from telling me my itinerary, does it do much else?

On a final note, where are the best rates found to exchange australian dollars besides banks in SYDNEY? I found a local one which basically locks in a rate once per day is not too good (but without commission of course)

Many thanks.

edit: It is meant to say 'Choosing'

Hi Job

I will assume you dont have status with the airlines ;) Are you flying domestic or international and which airline? Every airline has a different policy and process for this.

Cheers

Simplest suggestion is to contact the airline direct & make request a specific seat (pre-allocation) request.

use www.checkmytrip.com or www.viewtrip.com or similar sites to see if you have already been pre-allocated a seat.

I just requested a change in one of my QF seats in whY class to seats 70J & 70K .... I know it's way way back and near woop-wooop but oh well, flying whY means it's those higher numbers unlike many lucky folks on this site flying 1A or 1K!

I actually think (depending on the destination) if I was forced into whY with mrssimongr then I would go for those two seaters at the back - unless I could get the seat "between" us blocked off - but I wouldnt gamble on that - better to have two seats "alone"...

Hi there, I'm flying with Qantas, Finnair, and Cathay to destinations Tokyo, Helsinki, Warsaw, London, Hong Kong. No status I'm afraid :(

Good morning - I am flying to Sydney with Emirates on 8 January 2008. Please advise if and when I can select our seats and book in on line.

regards,

boris

iirc, Emirates only offers pre-selection to members with status of their frequent flyer programme in economy and not to all people. If travelling in business or 1st, pre-allocation is offered

They do offer online checkin and you will be able to select seats then if you have not been able to do it in advance

Welcome to AFF boris.

You can OLCI for Emirates departing from many airports, but not all. If you can, then it is from 24 hrs prior to scheduled departure. You can select seats then, though I'm reasonably sure (but not 100%) a work colleague got seats pre-allocated over the phone on Emirates well in advance. Can't hurt to ring them and ask.

If your a member of skywards you can pre-allocate seats. Call EK and they will be more than happy to assist. If you retrieve your booking you may be able to see the seat that you have already been allocated.

It costs nothing to be a member of skywards. Once a member you can ask for a seat. even first time travellers can benefit from this.

I agree completely, I am flying to Singapore in a few weeks and taking my wife and have specifically requested the back row of 2 seats. I think they are great because you are guaranteed that it is just the two of you and last time I flew on SIA they started the meal service from the back and front and worked towards the middle so I was also fed first:D
