I am confused with talk of SYD-CBR, which half coughd capital are you referring to? The defacto one or the real one? Oh, both ...;)

I'm talking about CBR. Just about every major project our local gov't will always do half coughd (look up GDE for one example, there they really did only build half a road)

An cough whole?

BTW we are getting way OT here...

Yes it is, but the last 50 or so km down along the M5 in SYD is a very slow trip. My best (slowest effort) was 6 hours from CBR CBD to SYD CBD. 3 hours to get to SYD, 3 hours to get along the M5 at a speed which I could have ran faster than.

Even at the quickest (without speeding) it still takes me over 3 hours to drive from CBR - SYD. (CBD to CBD)
I was only really using the driving distance as a comparative indication of the distance with an ICE example.

But given what your saying I did some guessimating on a SYD-CBR trip he average speeds for the various sectors and got about 120 minutes based on the top speed of ICE. But that included 47 mins to get to campbelltown at an average 80 kph.

I guess the other point to note about the ICE is that it is a track that is isolated from livestock and all that. In the highest speed places that I've seen it is even up on an overhead track.

An cough whole?
You're forgetting Melbourne's part in the canberra equation - it would have to be an cough 2/3rds
