China - never a dull moment!

I hate NKG lounges with a passion. Have spent so many hours in theem with delayed NKG-PEK flts - never again - CRH trains only for me on that route.

Did you notice not even a real toilet to sit on in NKG lounges - only squat pans - yet outside where 'commoners' are housed they have real toilets - go figure. (Do remember to take sufficient paper off the roll at entry though - terrible to get caught short after you have been caught short.

Thanks for the morning amusement Cruiser Elite. LMFAO!

So we are sitting one of the larger offices in our Nanjing factory last week and it is seriously hot as cough.

For gods sake can you guys please turn on that aircon?

Cannot - we have lost "romote" - not not a typo - they hove lost the "romote".

Next thing we have the front pulled off and my #1 man delving in their trying to trip-it - am expecting to see him start 'sizzling' any second - but after 10mins or so he finally gets it to fire-up - er sorry - cool-up.

The other response is that the a/c is on - still sweating so check and find it is set on about 28 degrees! :-|

Agreed - the dom/regional delays are ridiculous. I usually go via PVG and G trains. Will definitely try that new Business Class next time to PEK - looks great!
I didn't bother with the loos but wet wipes and tissue packs in the day bag are SOP! ;)
First time in years I have been to NKG airport and the amount of construction underway is considerable. The existing terminal looks as if it will more than double in size with what appears to be a transit hotel going up behind it.
From the air you can see a second runway and another terminal under construction, presumably International - at least 20-22 gates.
All of which is very curious.
Admittedly there was a huge scrum in the dom terminal but I only counted 6 arrivals/departures (total) in the 3 hours I was there (my KA811 was an hour late due to…"air traffic control issues". Couldn't have been ATC issues at NKG - there was no air traffic!)
Some of the construction work: (panning left to right)

But this is inside the International Departures terminal…busy, huh?

Maybe a case of: If you build it, they will come…?

NKG = sh*thole - worst airport for food in China - but you can get a REALLY good shoe shine for RMB10 I think.

Here are a couple of pics Business Class on CRH / G train PEK-NKG last week. Don't forget pecking order - Cattle Class then First Class then Business Class - cost RMB1,409 PEK-NKG last week in Business Class - 3H 46m duration - lunch INEDIBLE - so BYO - but sandwich at Starbucks or Costa Coffee or Tour Les Jours or whatever before dep.

I was last to board and every seat full so was kinda uncomfortable taking any more pics.

Great pics - many thanks!
And slippers! Can't wait to add CRH slippers to the collection! :D
PJs on the overnighters, I wonder??? :D

Those business class seats look pretty swish.

I've done the train Guangzhou>Shenzen a few times, on time, reliable no problems... until the family brings in their steaming bowls of pork noodles and sit's next to you!!

Got a text about 20 minutes ago - a friend telling me she had just arrived in Nanjing from Beijing on that train. Her work only pays for Cattle but she didn't even know about the Business Class carriages.

Most people don't know about this class.

Where is she staying? I stayed at IC last week RMB850 + 15% - fabulous hotel.

Have you thought about an apartment? We were spending a fortune on hotels in Guangzhou and then looked at the cost of the apartment. We've had the place since start of the year and it's more than paid for itself. Since start of May it has only been vacant 2.5 weeks.

I am only in China 50nts / year spread over 3 cities - apartment will never work. I get Studio Suite at Renaissance Capital in BJ for RMB1,000/nt + 15% and huge room in IC in NJ RMB850/nt + 15% - I can get Hua Ting in SH for RMB600/nt + 15% - all with brekkie included - apartment just not on radar.

:) She lives in Nanjing - was coming home.
Wow! That's a good rate for the IC - impressive building but haven't been inside it yet - stayed one night at The Westin in April (before moving into the work-provided apartment) - it was RMB700 + 15% IIRC.
Another friend has been threatening to take me to dinner at The Summit @ IC - I will take him up on it when I get back in September.

Got cha! I must admit.. I'm sure the IC breakfast is better than the Dim Sum I've stopped for on the way to the subway early in the morning! :D

In Shanghai I most often stay at Four Points, Daning also for RMB600+. Very handy - a couple hundred metres to the Metro (Line 1) and 4 stops to Peoples'Square. Not bad value at that rate - usually get the SPG Gold free upgrade without having to ask. The Westin Bund Centre has been the best at that - upgrade every time, never asked. Also stayed at Le Royal Meridien for 2 weeks a couple of years ago. This is the best location in Shanghai but the staff were about as warm as a marble tile in winter - The Westin Bund Centre always greet me like a long lost relative! 4Points? Well, it's 600 a night… :-|.:)

Stayed at Le Meridien Sat nt - RMB998 + 15% - YES best location in SH but senior staff so cold - deals hard to get there.
