Gotta love when two autocratic, dictator led nations get together and dream big!

China and Russia are considering building a high-speed rail line thousands of kilometres from Moscow to Beijing that would cut the journey time from six days on the celebrated Trans-Siberian to two, Chinese media reports.
The project would cost more than $US230 billion ($262 billion) and be over 7000 kilometres long, the Beijing Times reported - more than three times the world's current longest high-speed line, from the Chinese capital to the southern city of Guangzhou.

Trans-Siberian railway: Plan for high-speed train on classic route

It'll be built before we have a train to MEL AP.

Amazing they can build it within 5 years (and I won't be surprised if they can). Sydney North West Rail Link takes 6 years to build it and it is only 23km.

Re: China and Russia to consider building a high-speed rail line from Bejing to Mosco

Slow here as Govt delays things themselves. The Sydney South West Rail Link is completed and ready to open, just waiting for the election next March so it can be opened

In WA a 345km iron ore line can be built in 18 months which is for Roy Hill, Gina's line.

I'd have my doubts about Russia and China, China would have to fund the lot and I think even the Chinese people might have their doubts about funding it.

But if they get it done then that would be great.

Classic time vs money trade off. When not having a railway is going to cost millions a day, of course Gina can throw money at it. My general impression is that suburban rail lines involve savings in the tens of millions to the whole economy, meaning the government isn't even going to see all of that return.

Must be time for more massive government stimulus!

Re: China and Russia to consider building a high-speed rail line from Bejing to Mosco

But it will still take 2-days....

As for time to build.
Well that's the ability of the Chinese Govt to organise (cheap/forced) labour, reclaim (confiscate) land and fast-track (ignore) environmental issues

Re: China and Russia to consider building a high-speed rail line from Bejing to Mosco

of course they can build it with apparent ease(efficiency)...whoever/whatever gets in their way, will just be 'silenced' or 'relocated'/demolished or cleared, by the 'authorities' ...and i bet there won't be any sign of an environmental study being conducted

Re: China and Russia to consider building a high-speed rail line from Bejing to Mosco

It's not just china and Russia where environmental approvals might be pushed through.

It'll be built before we have a train to MEL AP.

...and a trip will cost less then Southern Cross to Melbourne Airport too.
