China Airlines reward seats using Qantas points

A very big pro for ONT is that you don't have to go through LA if you are on a driving holiday. So convenient to fly in and pick up a car which you can drop back at LAX when flying back to Australia.
Also 2 big attractions for any shopper in your group. Very close to Ontario Mills outlet shopping and a short distance to the Desert Hills Premium shopping outlet with a lot of upper end shops.
Great for driving to Las Vegas or continuing on I 10 towards Texas.

Afternoon all

My experiences so far is that I was unable to make a booking for my daughter on points so had to call the number (Melb - Syd - TPE - FRA). Horrible layover in TPE (17 hours), but its such an offer that its worth it (she wants to fly in June so its not like there's alot of choice).

The agent didn't seem to think that it was possible to book on a CI flights so there was a bit of checking with supervisors etc. We got there in the end, but although a booking has gone in and monies deducted ($250 or so), the points haven't been deducted and no tickets have been received as yet.

Wait and see! Has anyone else been able to make the booking directly via the website? Curious if its just me or if its site-wide.
Cheers
Dave

Excellent news ! Yesterday I booked two business seats Melbourne to Taiwan, then Bangkok to Melbourne, but could not do Taiwan to Hanoi. Today's news that all China Airlines routes would be available was brilliant timing - and I was able to book two seats business Taiwan to Hanoi ! Feels amazing to a) be going somewhere international and on our bucket list; and b) to be able to use Qantas rewards points so easily - at last !

Found J reward seats from TPE-LHR on the QF site in December but of no use as there are no J reward seats from anywhere in Oz to TPE that can link up.

Great news. CI PE and J look very good products. Lots of availability if you're travelling between Asian capitals as well - TPE, HKG and Japan.

Managed to pick up some Classic Rewards Flights to London via Taipei in Jan next year. Business class on the way there and economy on the way back to Melbourne. Saw a business return flight yesterday afternoon but sat and thought it about it too long and it was gone by the evening.

Super keen to go on my first business class flight and the sweetener being the insanely low taxes for these flights. So much better than the $2k in taxes Emirates were asking for a Business/First flight each way.

Related question: Have a SYD-TPE J reward coming up in June, it's an 081 ticket but CI flight number.

Now, I need to position myself from MEL earlier that day. Besides leaving plenty of time for the self-connect at SYD, if I book a separate QF one-way would/could they check through my luggage all the way from MEL to TPE? Or is that only for QF-CI connections on one itinerary? Advice is appreciated. If not I tend to just fly VA instead.

Per https://www.qantas.com/agencyconnec...on/interline-and-through-checked-baggage.html the answer is no.

QF to/from oneworld is OK if you're mixing award/revenue travel in two different PNRs, but it looks like QF to non-OW is a no-go unless it's the same PNR.

I wouldn’t hold my breath awaiting it.
EK has been a major partner of QF for how long now and they still can’t get DXB to work on their system
So given the call centre dont know anythng about this availability and the website is farked, any ideas on how to book tix on points?

Nothing to CGK or MNL?
Can often get cheap J or “shudders” Y fares up to TPE
No J rewards to either in December. I have been looking at both of these for some time as positioning flights but no availability has come up. I guess anyone without Gold or Platinum status is screwed these days.

Entering TPE or DXB as the starting point in the multi city tool with a destination of an Aus airport gives errors stating not a valid classic points location.
Definitely still a issue especially if you get someone at the call centre that doesn’t know what they are doing
