I am somewhat gobsmacked by China Airlines' alternatives to a cancelled flight. A friend of mine told me last night that her flight from BNE to TPE (CI54) on May 31 was cancelled and she'd been re-booked on the same flight but a day earlier (without being informed of it). Here's the kicker - she's connecting to a flight to YVR (on the same PNR and still on CI) on Jun 1. So, instead of re-routing her through SYD on May 31 (so that she can connect to her flight to YVR), they are expecting her to arrive into TPE on the morning of May 31 and stay a night (at her expense) before connecting to the YVR flight on the night of Jun 1! I have advised her to ring China Airlines and insist on changing her flight to TPE back to May 31 but be re-routed through SYD. The funny thing is that when I check for CI flights from BNE to TPE On May 31, they're all going through SYD, so why not just do that in the first place! One other thing to note, she booked these flights through the now-defunct Bestjet, so the airline may have tried to let them know about the change (which, of course, would have been pointless). Oh, and she's travelling in J as well.

Any suggestions for desling with this would be welcome.

Definitely call CI, I have found them to be quite accommodating in the past. Just have all the info on hand and I’m sure they will rectify it.
Hope it ends well

I can report back that everything got sorted out very quickly. I ended up sorting my friend's flights on her behalf. China Airlines were great. They just had to open up a seat in the fare bucket that she was in and it all came through less than an hour later. They were also aware of the Express Path issues at SYD and asked if more transit time was required. Excellent service!! I am becoming increasingly inpressed with them and have been recommending them to quite a few people now.
