There's probably some information on this somewhere but I did a search and couldn't see anything so please, oh wise and regular contributors here at AFF, please excuse this lapsed participant and allow me to ask a question :)

We're flying QF93 in J on 17 November and being double WP like to maximise First Lounge time. What's the earliest we can check in for the flight and what's the earliest we can go to the First lounge?

At the moment I've booked us on a flight the night before but QF93 has moved back its departure time quite a bit since we originally booked it and now will depart at 11:55am so I'm thinking of moving the flight from CBR to the same day as QF93 and saving the cost of the hotel (although there will be fees for changing the flight I'm sure).

Thanks in advance for all your expert help!

The check-in's open at 5am and the lounge opens at 5am.

As a WP you can check in anytime on the day of the flight.

I'm not sure this is correct, at least with luggage. From my experience it's 3.5 hours.

Edit: I wouldn't change the flight. You're unlikely to get significantly more time in the F lounge and if there's a delay for weather you could miss the flight completely. Even though you're most likely protected for a missed connection, you may have to wait 24 hours for the next flight. And you also get to use the F check in if you haven't done that before.

Edit 2: YQY is probably thinking about SYD which has all day check in.

If you do change your CBR flight then you would be able to check your luggage through from CBR to LAX.

The foggy season will be over and given it's a Monday, there's enough Canberra-Melbourne flights that I think it would be safe to book one same day. As opusman says, big advantage is you can check-in in Canberra and get your boarding pass issued there and walk from domestic to international and go through customs/immigration anytime. No restriction on check-in time.

Hmmm decisions, decisions. Thanks everyone. It is nice to experience First check in but then again it's nice to get the luggage checked through from CBR. Fog shouldn't be an issue in mid November.

I would've thought that even with an overnight <24 hour connection with bags tagged to the final destination, you still have to collect your bags with you? ie. they will not hold them at the airport overnight for any reason? Someone with another experience I'd be interested to know - I have advised my brother to do the same at SYD for a similar situation.

I use QF93 and 94 a few times a year and the check-in opens 4 hours before departure for A380 flights at MEL.

Interesting. Each time I've used the F check in it has been closed (lights off) until 3.5 hours before departure. Do the business counters open earlier?

Not sure of the business counters. First is always open when I arrive between 0700 / 0730. I am always early to beat the traffic.
I'm pretty sure F check in is open from VERY early, because of the NZ departure flights.

Yes, but it closes again. Keep in mind that the QF93 departure times varies by 2 hours depending on daylight savings plus they have changed the schedule by more than 30 mins.

Hmm, interesting. Fair enough !
I have never seen it closed. Maybe because of my arrival time. I arrive at the same time whether I have a 0950, 1020 or 1050 etc departure.
I figure if I work on the maximum T-4 before the departure, I have nothing to worry about.

The F check-in is really not so exciting that I would plan my whole trip around it :)

But F checkin in MEL still kinda easy to get to - but you still gotta get to the F Lounge post checkin - who has checked into SQ F in SIN? Now your talking - but I digress.
