Hi,
I booked an Etihad ticket, SYD-AUH-VIE return. I'm on VA metal to AUH, then HG to Vienna. My agent then added a VIE-TLV on HG to that, too - I have a 12 hour connection in Vienna so that I can have a break, stretch my legs, and eat some strudel.
When I went to check in at the VA counter they at first couldn't see past my landing in AUH. No return flight, nothing.
Then I asked for my bags to be checked through to TLV. The agent at the business counter said she couldn't as VA doesn't partner with HG and can't check my bags through - I said that wasn't true because you were able to do it for my AUH-VIE flight. In the end I had no choice but to leave it be - she (& the service desk) said the system wouldn't let her do it, so there was no point holding my ground.
It doesn't make sense though - AB & HG are partners of VA and EY, why wouldn't they check it through? Is that the common experience with this alliance?
Very frustrating first experience with VA/EY...
