I'm looking at travelling with the cat on a QF service from ROK to SYD (via BNE). I'm tempted to leave the cat behind... but I don't think that would go down well

I've called the WP line and they have said that AAE handle it all now. Easy enough, however on three attempts now I can't get AAE to answer the phone. Fairly consistant with all of my dealings with them...

I'll dedicate a few hours to it on Monday, however to give me a bit of an idea... The QF website states that pets can't be checked with QF at a few ports and ROK is one of them. I don't really understand why as DJ will accept pets there, but I guess that's not very important. That's all ok, it can be checked at the AAE facility however of course then it doesn't count as part of my baggage allowance and needs to be paid for as freight. Any idea how much it would cost to freight an average size cat?

If it's checked as freight, I'd assume I'll need to collect it from AAE in SYD. Where are they? I'll be arriving at about 9pm on a Saturday but I'd assume they're always open.

Has anyone has any experience doing this with QF before. I travelled with someone a while ago who checked a cat on a BNE-ROK flight and that was easy (just checked it, tagged the cage and dropped it off at oversize - didn't cost a cent) however it seems that ex ROK is going to be harder.

I flew with my cat BNE-ROK return with no issues - from memory he was just checked in through oversized baggage (at both ports), and at no cost. I was extremely happy with their service :)

What number are you trying to ring AAE on, and AAE are next door to the terminal in SYD just like they are in ROK.

Cats don't travel well in planes. Be aware you can permanently damage the cats hearing

13 12 13 and selecting the animals option. I finally got through to someone this morning who seemed a bit simple and then managed to disconnect me. On hold again now...

Type pets into the QF web site search box

On Australian domestic flights from eligible airports*, pets which fit into a small or medium sized pet pack can be taken as part of your free baggage allowance, subject to the exceptions below

The problem is, ROK isn't an eligible airport.

I know it's not ideal... but we're out of options (other than the obvious... which is looking more appealing!)

131213 generally goes to the nearest AAE office, I would ring Monday when there is full staffing.

i travel with my dog a lot - shame he can't get ff points! send an email to them with your details, pet details and they will send you a form back. In syd you pickup from AAE terminal next to QF domestic terminal (about 2 mins walk as you turn left out of the terminal). normally you wait about 20-30 minutes for the animals to arrive. they are open all night it seems, i've landed around 10ish PM on sat from Perth and it's always open for pet collection.

it costs $80 for a dog+crate which is 15KG.. work back from there I guess. your crate needs to qualify as to how it's constructed etc.

you will need your boarding pass or copy of itinerary when you check in the cat, otherwise they winge!!

I've taken my gerbil as carry-on with no problems.
Wouldn't be game to try it with a cat though.

There's no way you can drive, staying at pet-friendly motels along the way?
