I've previously had a TID 12 month insurance policy that covered me for rental vehicle excesses. It's now expired and I'm not going to bother renewing it as most of my travel is international now and my credit card insurance covers that.

I do however have a 2 day car hire in BNE in a few weeks (collect Saturday AM, return Sunday PM) so I'm looking to see if I can find any insurance that works out cheaper than paying the Hertz excess reduction (I think it's $27.50 a day).

Cheapest I've found is 1cover with $35.50. Anyone know of any cheaper? Any obvious flaws in my plan that I've missed?

There is one UK based (IIRC) company that a few members on here use. Dave Noble, are you around? :p

If you have an ANZ card they have a $25 option, gives you a years coverage.

have a look at Car Hire Insurance | Car Rental Excess Insurance and their subsidiary Insurance 4 car hire Reimbursement Insurance. The first site is for annual policies and can follow links to the second site for daily cover. They cover the policy holder for any car rental excess costs rather than insuring the car itself. It works a little different to traditional insurance so check it out and see if it suits your needs. I have insured through them but have not had to make a claim.
