Are you starting from the city, or the airport?

Quickest, Cheapest and Easiest are often mutually exclusive.

Do you want the cheapest SIN-KUL flight? The cheapest way from SIN-KUL (I'd wager it'd be by bus or train)? The easiest (depends if you are int he city or already at the airport) but probably by plane or train - depending on how much time you have available.

Perhaps help us (and you) by being more specific.

Flights wise there's a million on LCCs and MH, so you should have plenty of timetable choice, but it depends on your exact requirements, which, again, you'll need to be more specific. As an example, if you've got time to spare, road (bus) or train will be cheaper, but LCC might if you've got no checked luggage etc. Then you have to factor in mis-connect backup plans if your LCC or other flight fails.

Indeed to be more specific, from Singapore central to the airport in KL, any mode of transport is fine, as long as it is cost effective and reliable. I'd prefer not to fly as I would already be doing a few flights.

I think the RJ flight is out of KL really late, so ideally I'd like something I can grab in the middle of the day that I can rely on to get there to make my flight. Any suggestions would be helpful (I have been to Singapore many times but I have never been to Malaysia so am not really familiar with the options).

If not going by plane I would consider the train rather than bus-malaysian drivers are mad and believe they will only have an accident if Allah wills it.I have driven from Singapore to KL and my son counted the profanities-several different with a grand total of 398 during the drive.:oops:;)
Besides the train will arrive at Sentral where an easy switch to KLIA express. But probably not going to be the cheapest option.Flights really are very cheap.

I was going to suggest the rail option as well, beat me to the details.

Train from SIN to KLIA?

Quicker train to KLIA: Get off the train at Seremban, about 45 mins before KL. Slightly closer to the airport. You can get a taxi from there. Has an interesting museum. This is also just as easy as going all the way to KL Sentral and backtracking.

The closest station to KLIA is Nilai, but you need to change at Seremban and get a suburban train. Not really worth the hassle.

Cheaper train: Make your way to Johore Bahru and get the train from there. Much the same fare only in RM, so real cost about 40% of the fare ex SIN (but factor in time/cost of getting to JB)

KTMB Intercity timetables here, there are three trains daily, you used to be able to book online but it doesn't seem to work very well any more

In 2001 I got of the KTMB train from Singapore at Seremban and caught a public bus to the airport for a couple of ringit.

Thought myself clever arriving at the airport 7 hours before the flight until I discovered BA check-in did not open until T-150 minutes.

Both train and bus between Sg and KL can feel like it is taking forever. Nice if you've got plenty of time and can stand the boredom. I've done both. Also Malaysian trains are long overdue for retirement. Even first class on a Malaysian train leaves a lot to be desired. In March this year, I got a flight on Air Asia between KL and Sg for $5. Yes, you take a risk with LCC's but they seem to operate better in Asia than here. Enjoy your time in Sg and fly to KL. It's only a 45-50 minute flight.

The alternative to avoid LCC cancellations is to take the short flight to KL early in the day, catch the Air Asia Bus from the KL LCCT into KL Sentral and spend the day exploring KL before your flight. That way you don't have to worry about the flight being cancelled at the last minute etc.

However this may not work if you have luggage. As I understand it, there is a connecting bus between the LCCT and KLIA. So you could go to KLIA first, leave your luggage and then catch the KLIA Ekspres into Sentral. From Sentral you can catch the monorail round to Bukit Bintang and explore the malls including Low Yat Plaza, a huge computer/IT mall!

Be aware that if you fly and you do use a LCC, you will be flying out of the LCC terminal in Singapore. They strictly enforce the 7kg hand carry rule and weigh your bag after you pass thru ticket/passport inspection. There are scales in the terminal to check your bag weight before check in.
