Cheap Brisbane 2-4 week accom?

Can anyone suggest a cheap (or reasonably cheap) furnished apartment/hotel/motel etc somewhere within 20km of CBD that would be suitable for a 2-4 week rental?

So far I've found a few places on Wotif/Qantas Hotels etc that range from $70/night (bed'n'breakfast @ Spring Hill) to ~$100 (motel near the Gabba somewhere). Then of course there are serviced apartments at > $1000 / week and of course hotels which tend to be around $1500-$2000/week.

I don't really have a price in mind, but of course security, my own bathroom and decent transport links are a must.

Anyone know of some options not found on the main sites?

Have you checked out stayz.com.au, quite good for longer term accomodation!

Best Western Astor Metropole averages out to ~$100/night over the 4 weeks. Plus you will earn 3x QFF points on your total spend which for 4 weeks would be ~8,400 QFF points.

The place is quite nice (I stayed there in my first week working in Brisbane), has cooking facilities, secure and very close to transport and Brisbane drinks.

You are kidding aren't you, that hotel is the one that has now featured on four different current affair stories and has some fantastic traveller reviews...

I stayed there a couple of years ago and actually had a very nice large room in the old section with a balcony overlooking Wickham Terrace and the city. On the other hand some of the (newer) areas of the hotel I explored were definitely rather dank and dingy. Service was not particularly good - took several trips back to reception in the ancient elevator for them to properly code the room keys and I had to chase up the QFF points afterwards.

It is certainly handy to Central rail station and of course the Tower Mill for the important gatherings. There is a small swimming pool but I didnt use it.

Why would I be kidding? My father and I stayed there in July 2008 and I go past the place almost every day.

I don't care too much for A Current Affair or traveller reviews. I prefer to be able to form my own opinion on a hotel and not what some stuck up nobody posts on the internet.

Although you statement is slightly deprecatory to your recommendation, I totally agree. I have certainly done things which you can find many reviews against, and had the best experience of my life. As always with anything on this forum, YMMV, or as the legal eagles say, caveat emptor.

The problem seems to have surfaced in the last 12 months, not a big fan of shows shows like today tonight etc but as the saying goes, where there is smoke there is fire, note I posted three completely different links with three different sources of reviews all with a common theme, none point to a problem with stays in 2008! here is another one that uses multiple data sources - same result:

I am not sure going past a place everyday would constitute an accurate assessment of what an accomodation house is like , for $100 a night I would be looking at a place with less smoke if you know what I mean, especially for a two weeks stay. It may well be a malicious campaign by an ex staffer, if it is then they have been busy! For the locals who need to recommend a place for corporate visitors, its been of the list for at least 15 months, Rydges Caloundra anyone

Yeah, I have to agree. That amount of bad reviews in such a short amount of time is suspicious. While a lot of the Tripadvisor posters are first timers, there are at least a few who have done other reviews, so that does increase the trust level of the postings.

It is very surprising the hotel doesn't have a Tripadvisor rep refuting the comments either...

Average rate over the time I'm looking at is ~$140/night as well.

~$150 / night for two weeks on F&F. Wish it earnt points!

I've stayed several times at the Abbey Apartments on Roma Street right opposite the transit centre with only good experiences (although not for about twelve months) and I've also recommended to other family members.

Naturally like any other place I have seen mixed reviews. The apartments I've had have been a decent size with reasonable kitchen facilities and a washing machine and drier in the bathroom.

I had very good government rates but looking on their website rates for > 7 day stays can be had for under $100 per night.

I've ended up in Southbank at a well known (good) hotel there.

Got a prepaid rate of $110/night, which I think is reasonable. Of course being a hotel means no washing machine/kitchen etc - but I'll survive for a couple of weeks. Many other options around the same price were hit'n'miss, and I will get some loyalty credits for the stay... (I think equivalent to 2 nights in the future ... so not too shabby!)
