I'm actually surprised Sydney Airport isn't already doing this even though I disagree with the concept and price gouging (fees are already collected on PAXs).

Imagine they implemented this at Melbourne Airport were there are not rail transport options so it's either car (vast majority) or bus (small %). That would really be a captured market to screw and increase profits.

Even though I own (accidentally) shares in Sydney airport, I hate them with a vengeance and can't believe they haven't already thought of this....as I frequent Syd airport frequently on my own dime, I have worked out cheap ways to get to / from the airport for around $5.

I agree this is rubbish where there are insufficient alternative transport options, or a "drop and ride" setup.

heres a page or two explaining this hack. The "opal burn card"

basically as long as u got $3.38 credit (or $2.36 in offpeak) on the card, you can whiz out on the train to the airport and exit leaving a large negative balance

In coming in you can take the 400 bus to mascot station avoiding the Gate fee. Of course you can go to the airport that way

I didn't know it was cheaper to Mascot but if you tapped off there and tapped back on it would charge the Gate fee interesting
So you need two opal cards to do that

That was three years ago now. Plenty of time to sell if you hate them that much. You could always donate the capital growth and dividends youve received over that period to a charity if you feel so strongly about their conduct

Many South American airports and European already have this in effect. Well, in a de facto way.

My own personal experiences, LIM, you can only enter the airport area via the car park. I think the base fee is about 10 soles ($3.75AUD) . Applies for Taxis and personal vehicles. No other choice other than being left on the main road outside and walk in. Albeit, perhaps a 3 or 4 minute walk. But remembering the road outside has no place to pull over, unless you seek severe harassment from the locals!

IST, for recent obvious reasons, no way can you drop off at terminal. Although, there is a drop off point, perhaps again a 3 or 4 minute walk from terminal.

It will happen here in some form sooner than later.

I'd have no problems with this if they followed the DFW example. $3 for 2 hours parking at the airport is a bargain!
