Another fine day of airport works at CNS. The Cairns Post reports the fun and games:rolleyes: yesterday
Frustrating flight delays at Cairns airport- Local Cairns News | cairns.com.au
HUNDREDS of travellers were left stranded yesterday as bad weather and the upgrade of a landing system forced the diversion of flights. A Cairns airport spokeswoman said up to 12 outbound flights also experienced lengthy delays.
"The weather has cleared now and we’re getting back on track," she told The Cairns Post about 7pmlast night.

Yeah, right, you just had to tempt fate...
ABC reports today
Travellers stuck as flights delayed at Cairns airport - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Hundreds of travellers have been left stranded at the Cairns airport in far north Queensland for the second day in a row.

I was alerted to this by a cab driver on the way to my 0545:shock: flight CNS-POM. It appears that the ILS has been out of action for some weeks while they installed an upgrade. They apparently took a punt on fine weather, and failed to allow for Murphy's law. 700 pax stranded in CNS last night, he claims.

I must have lucked a break in the weather:cool:. As we taxied out just before dawn I saw an impressive collection fo aircraft at the Domestic terminal, including two QF 767s which I think would have been QF649 and 925 - both were delayed to today. Would have created some interesting problems downstream I thought.

Mrs Pineapple is not so lucky, still parked in the Reef Lounge awaiting the 1505 flight to POM. Better to be stuck there than the QF Dom lounge.
