I've booked a *RTW with STA travel and am happy with my destinations but it is likely that I will want to change the dates of travel as I go.

I've heard varying reports on the ease and cost associated with changing these dates. I have heard from some sources (including STA) that you can change the date of the ticket free of charge at any point during the trip.

Browsing through the web however, it seems that the airlines themselves handle the tickets (once outside of the country of origin) and that you have to contact them to see if date changes are possible and how much of a fee this incurs (which sort of goes against the idea of free date changes as often advertised by STA).

If anyone has any experience or advice to share, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

You can change dates for free as long as routing is unchanged and still within the rules on stopovers (min 3, max 15, only stopover once in any one city). There are special rules about changes before departure.

As long as you don't need a ticket re-issue there is no fee, and on my last one they even didn't worry about the fee when they did need to change the ticket. I think with the RTW E-Ticket this is less of an issue now as charging for a new ticket is probably more hassle than it is worth.
