Hi All,
My 2 year QP membership is up for renewal at the end of the month :-(

Problem is, I've since changed employers so no more access to the corporate scheme (which gave significant savings). My current employer doesn't have a Qantas corporatescheme (one document I saw still referenced the Golden Wing Club!). I do have access to a scheme through a professional organisation membership, but the code was rejected on the QP Renew page. I don't know the exact savings of the new scheme, but assume they won't be as generous as my original scheme.

So my questions are:
a) How do I swap schemes without copping the joining fee again?
b) Does the fee get recalculated in accordance with the new scheme's agreement
c) What are the repercussions for renewing under a scheme you are ineligble to join - a cancellation or a chance to nominate another scheme, banishment to DJ or JQ for eternity....?

Thanks again in anticipation.

I was in a similar postiion a couple of years ago.

The 'invitation to renew' from QF came via e-mail, and I had to answer a question affirming I was eligible to renew in that corporate scheme (which I wasn't). I declined to do so (QF stated they may 'check' my eligibility with the company concerned), and instead joined the AFF corporate scheme...rates not as attractive as the previous scheme but still a reasonable saving over being Joe Public, indivdual member.

Provided you don't let your membership lapse (and even then there may be a grace period - I'm not sure), you won't have to 'join' again i.e. you don't pay joining fees.

I don't recall precisely the steps I took, but it involved dialogue with the admin of the new scheme, and possibly with QF, and was pretty straightforward. Check out the Qantas Club section of the QF website for details.

You will simply pay the 'new' annual rates.

Any one have any idea what are the repercussions for renewing under a scheme you are ineligble to join - a cancellation or a chance to nominate another scheme etc?I just called for a quote on the new scheme - a difference of $215 for two years. Almost makes it worth taking the risk of getting caught.

The obvious answer would be that your QP membership is cancelled and you don’t get a refund.

But if you didn’t get caught, no biggie.

I would not recommend it, they may well decide to prevent you being a QP member for life, and it would also depend on what type of manger was in place for your previous scheme, group or individual, on the basis that if it is group managed then the manager would know your status.

Thanks for the tips markis and sam. Looks like I'll just have to shell out that bit more. Unfortunately no more travel planned until the end of the year.I'll just make sure I go back to working for an employer with a more generous scheme before the next one runs out.Cheers

dejium,

Do look at the AFF corporate QP scheme as it is certainly better than going it alone. ;)

Thanks straitman. I do have access with a professional organisation. The AFF rates are the same. The $215 difference is between my old scheme and the new scheme. You can probably tell from that how cheap the original scheme was. :-(

The advantage of the AFF scheme is the Gold AFF membership which gets extra PM availability but more importantly gets rid of all those annoying ads.

I also understand the other corporate comments as I also had use of a very cheap scheme until recently.

Do corporate schemes get cheaper with the more members that are enrolled through them, or is it an arrangement worked out with Qantas?

Generally, for you basic corporate scheme, an organising entity need a minimum number of members (10, IIRC).

From there there's a standard corporate rate .

Larger entities having much business with Qantas may be able to negotiate this standard rate down.
