I have an AA business award ticket from SYD-CDG on Malaysia Airlines. I have recently lost my elite status with AA and would like to add my Qantas FF platinum number to the reservation. Is this possible?

Was that an AWARD ticket ?

That does not earn any miles or SC in both schemes so your FF number is moot.

Lounge access: just show your WP card.

If needed, call up AA to modify your booking entry.

Yes it is an award ticket. Have heard some lounges only allow access according to what is on ones boarding card!

Should be possible. Ask AA.
I'm currently in the same situation, and BA and Iberia (so far) have treated me OK.

Yes, just call AA and ask them to change it. Besides lounge access, having higher status reflected on the boarding pass can affect benefits such as priority check-in, priority/express path at security/immigration, priority boarding, seat selection, service recovery during during irregular ops etc. So its worth calling and having the higher status added to the booking.

Worst case, get the check-in agent to do it for you. But it can be done over the phone with AA.

As per NM it is better to have the higher FF status on the ticket. AA was able to put my QF number on their award ticket over the phone.

Just hand your QF card over at check-in and they should change it automatically. Much quicker than ringing AA.

Thanks for all of your advice. Called AA and they changed it no problems. Will it show up in my bookings on Qantas now?

But if you want to use the QF status for seat selection, then having the number in the booking prior to check-in may be beneficial. In my expereice with calling AA, I have never waited more than a few seconds to speak with an agent. but I do call the USA number, not Aussie number.

you can change this yourself by logging on to the Finnar website and there is a box to change your FF number :)

there are benefits... for example on CX you can select exit rows for free. If they are handing out upgrades you might have a higher priority.

and much easier when it comes to lounge access and check-in. I have never used my card to gain access anywhere - status is always on the boarding pass or a pre-printed lounge invite.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

We should not confuse the OP with the implied remark that status on BP is a pre-requisite for lounge access because in most cases, it is not.

There might be some occasional confusion / resistance [from some less-than-knowledgeable lounge angels] but on the whole, it has been good in practice.

I was advised by SYD Flounge to "put my AA on my booking and use my QF WP for lounge access" when I asked them to swap QFF for AA number just prior to boarding.

agree... but I was just pointing out it can be easier with status in the booking. the last time I think I showed a card was for anytime access!!

I was only trying to help the uninitiated.

I am very mindful that I was talking to a real pro !
