Hi Guys,

I am awaiting a visa to come back to me in the next few days before I depart for the US. My visa is scheduled to come back on Monday and my flight is booked for Tuesday, for which I have opted for a points upgrade to J. From my experience, I usually find out about a day before whether or not I have been upgraded (and my points are deducted from my account). The US Embassy has advised that there may be some delays with my visa, pushing the arrival day to Tuesday or Wednesday, which would mean that I would need to reschedule my flight. The problem is that they don't provide a tracking number, so I won't actually know when the visa will be delivered until I receive it.

My question is two part - if the visa is delayed and doesn't arrive by Monday night, yet Qantas have already deducted the points and upgraded me, can I reschedule this flight to a later date as a business fare (provided there are available seats)? If not and I have to go back to economy on another flight, are the points refunded to me?

Thanks again!

**Thought I would put a caveat in --> I had to book the flights so close to receiving my visa due to work

Provided it's not less than 24 hours out you can cancel an upgrade award for a small penalty (I think 5000 pts from memory). You would need to re-request an upgrade for your rescheduled flight.

If you cancel the upgrade less than 24 hours out then you will most likely lose the points.

No - you will not be permitted to rebook as a business class seat.

The terms and conditions for an international upgrade are these:

[h=3]Cancellations[/h]You may cancel an unconfirmed request for a Classic Upgrade Reward without forfeiting your points at any time prior to the scheduled flight departure. Should your upgrade request be confirmed and you choose to cancel your upgrade request more than 24 hours before the scheduled flight departure your Classic Upgrade Reward may be refunded subject to a fee. If you cancel your upgrade request or fail to board a flight for which you have redeemed points for a Classic Upgrade Reward within 24 hours of the scheduled flight departure, you will forfeit the points used and a seat may no longer be available in your original booked class.
If you cancel or change your flight before your upgrade is confirmed, the Classic Upgrade Reward request will be cancelled, and a new request must be made.

My flights at 7.30am Tuesday morning . More than likely wouldn't be able to change the flight Monday night.

That's a shame about the cancellation policy. Now I guess I need to cancel it before it is confirmed... This ought to be a fun flight back :(.
