Changing a Classic Plus reward booking

Has anyone tried changing a Classic Plus booking? If so, were you able to do it online? Alternatively is Qantas able to do it over the phone?

Having just gone through this myself, unfortunately it's a long wait via the phone for changes. You also will need to do a double wait as not all call centre staff are trained for Classic Plus and will transfer you immediately when they see Classic Plus in the itinerary.

I don't. My query was whether it's possible to change online or must be done by phone.

I mean it's been 4 days since you first asked. have you tired online? Are there issues? Or for a future booking?

I don’t have a booking yet. I’m just planning for the next DSC offer, when I was thinking of making a placeholder booking, then changing it to the fare I want when it goes on sale. Hence the query about the ability to change and the process.

As long as it’s a flexi fare
It’s simple to place into credit and reuse it on a revenue tic

I’m pretty sure there’s no option to book a classic reward plus - if they’re like rewards tics it’s not possible

No I’m going to book a placeholder Classic Plus and then try to change it when the cost of the fare I actually want goes on sale.

Changes are permitted under the t&cs but I recall reading somewhere that call centre staff can’t book Classic Plus. Hence my query about how a change can be made.

Changes would be permitted, but highly doubtful to a lower fare cost and getting the difference refunded would probably not happen.
Contact centre can change the flights, but it gets converted to a 'cash' fare.

Section 15.2 deals with cr+ change. In particular

15.2.7 You can only change a Classic Flight Reward Segment to another Classic Flight Reward Segment and a Classic Plus Flight Reward Segment to another Classic Plus Flight Reward Segment of the same or higher fare. Any fare difference between the fare for your new booking and the original fare must be paid in money. In addition, a Change Fee (see the Fee Schedule) per passenger will apply.

Your ticket will be as if you paid for the commercial fare and any changes will be based on the prevailing commercial fare at the time that you change it.

That is, if the underlying commercial base fare was 500 AUD for whatever classic plus booking that you do and you go to change the booking and the new base fare is 700 AUD, then you'll pay the 200 AUD fare difference as cash. The upside is you might just pick up some points for doing so...

If the fare has since gone down, eg. due to a sale happening, then you'll need to go to the next fare level and pay the difference since you cannot go down in fare value.

No, I was thinking of booking a cheap placeholder CR+ (international Y) during DSC and then changing it to J when it goes on sale, and pay the difference in points and taxes/fees. But if the difference all has to be paid in cash, then it's not worth it. Darn.

The better approach is to book a W fare or even a cheap J fare to somewhere nearby during DSC and then exchange it to a long haul J sale and pay the difference in cash so the difference that you pay in cash is minimal. Your goal being to find something to book as a CR+ that is say < 1k AUD lower than the average going sale fare for whatever your destination is.

I thought this might be the case. Any other tips you can share from your experience?

Unfortunately nothing else really. My change was due to a schedule change on their side that made an illegal MCT in SIN. Once I was connected to someone who could do Classic Plus it was just like a regular request to change flights.

I did have an issue where I had to call 2x more over a few weeks to remind them issue the changed ticket as the updated ticket didn't come through after a few days.
