I frequently transit Terminal 2 at Changi on flights to and from Asia and usually it's merely the case of getting off the plane and walking into T2 and either hanging around for my next flight or going thru immigration and heading off into the City.

Last Wednesday nite I took a Silk Air flight from coughet into Singapore arrive at gate F40(I seem to remember) at T2 but instead of being able to get onto the moving walkway, all passengers were required to walk to an in-bound security x-ray facility and have their hand luggage scanned.

This is the first time I've experienced since I travelled thru Singapore since late last year. Does anyone know if there has been a general tightening up of inbound passenger screening lately or was I just unluckly to be on a flight that was picked out for a random check? One other I did notice was at the luggage carousel there were about 3-4 guards armed with sub-machine guns standing against the glass screen facing the carousels. That's something else I've not seen although I have seen the odd pair of armed guards patrolling thru T2.

Had my first experience of T3. Must say it's quite a nice terminal. T2 now seems a lot less crowded.

I was not required to go through any in-bound security screening when arriving into T2 on an MH flight from KUL this week. I suspect there is some concern that the origin airport is not thorough with the screening so needs to be done at SIN T2 arrival.

That's what I was beginning to think. As I said, I was flying into Singapore from coughet.

Same thing happened to me a couple of months ago on an SQ flight from DPS. However, I do remember flying CGK to SIN earlier in the year and there was no extra security on arrival.

I spend my of my year in SIN and such travel in and out a lot, it happens sometimes but only ever happened to me from Indonesia and Thailand from memory, never from anywhere else, but i would guess also Cambodia, Burma etc would also get the same treatment.

I think they just do it randomly but targeting certian country of origin's.

As a general rule i find Singapore security good, not lax but not stupidly strict. And thinking now has to be the most efficient and friendly.

Was on the way back from Germany couple of days ago and of course i had to pick the security line with an idiot that seemed not to have traveled before (except he had bag tags that indicated he had) and everything from the old style blade razor blads to liquids were removed from him. Amazing.... and annoying for me waiting behind him.

About 1.5 years ago I was on a SQ flight from SYD when this screening occurred. So I think there must be some level of intelligence applied and not just the country of origin.
