Change to passenger on current family award booking

Due to illness and likely surgery my daughter wishes to change a current award booking (non-QF flight) from one family member to another. The rules allow a name change but I believe this only applies to QF-operated flights. Has anyone received appropriate understanding from Qantas under these conditions if they have such discretion with the other airline.
