A warning about Etihad's attitude to a legal name change by marriage.
Etihad is demanding AUD150 for a change to married name and a AUD26 ticket reissue fee for my new wife.
VA, HA and SQ were all very understanding and accomodating in changing their booking.
Etihad's response is pay the outrageous fees or don't fly.

Simple solution, have your wife travel under her maiden name, don't change the passport yet..

In general, it doesn't matter who you actually are when travelling, as long as you look like the person in the passport, and the ticket is booked under the same name as that passport.
Sounds like you might have found this out slightly too late now, and half the tickets are in one name and half in another :(

Congrats on the marriage! Does your wife have a second passport with her maiden name by any chance? If not then I guess HUACA is your only way.

Thanks for your replies and wishes. We travel a lot and have many forward (up to a year) bookings, so unfortunately there was no good time to hand in her prior name passport and obtain the new one.
Fortunately the 3 airlines mentioned recognise, without a cost implication, that some women may choose to change their name by marriage.
Anyone booking Etihad well in advance and then deciding to get married will be in for a AUD176 surprise. Interestingly the US$ fee for a name change is USD100 (instead of AUD150).
