I remember reading somewhere that QF (maybe 6 months ago) started allowing multi class bookings if it was J/F or Y/Y+ together.

I have a Flight Mel - Sing on QF metal, then the next legs are BKK-SYD QF Codeshare on EK Metal connecting to Mel (Which is a J Fare Class) so it wasn't a cheap itinerary coming in around 5k due to the J leg on the end i beleive

Now doing some looking, Mel to Bkk Return on EK metal on a QF code in First class is 6k. Do you think there is a way i could change my return leg on the EK flight to first for say $500 would it be in fare difference?

I just got off phone to QF and they said to call back between 7am and 7pm cause he didnt know exactly how stuff like that worked, not sure why those hours, but do you think its possible?

As you have mentioned, F/J and Y/W can be mixed. You cannot cross mix the two pairs.

The price will be along the lines of: half of J return fare + half of F return fare + taxes.

So worth a call back? Was i missing something when they said it was best to call back between 7am and 7pm? ?!

UPDATE: 2nd Agent said computer wasn't allowing him, but was sure F/J fares were allowed to be combine now, but he said cause it was a middle segment Mel-SIn "Bkk-Syd" Syd-Mel he thinks the rules don't allow it.

Worked out the fare diff on that leg would only have been about $500, and to try out EK F would have loved it, is there any way i can explain to get them to do it? Try arvo shift or something? Should have realised when booking! :(

MEL-SIN would be a J fare basis. BKK-MEL (not just BKK-SYD) would be a F fare basis. As you are aware that means you pay a F fare but travel in J for SYD-MEL.

Perhaps look on ITA Matrix and manually specify flight and fare classes for the different legs and see if you can get it to construct.

All sorted thanks to the Roo and another extremely nice Qantas agent, end of the day, it was a whole $99.80 to change that segment from J to A class, wow! Excited now!
