As a matter of interest does anyone know how you qualify for "Chairman's Lounge"?
Is it my invitation only or do you have to have so many years of SP's?
Or do you have to be a friend of the Chairman or Alan? (Joke)
Just interested - never likely to see it but it would be interesting to know the qualifications.
I am presently about to complete my second year of P1 with almost 5,000 status points and that's a lot of flying.
But I have never met anyone who is a member of CL's - maybe it takes a special handshake!
Anyway that's my laugh for the day:)

It's a bit like buying an expensive car.

If you have to ask then you can't afford it :!:

Something like being in control of at least $1M of QF spend a year or similar, or being an A grade celeb or a politician. Allowing Virgin to sponsor you is also a good way to have your membership cancelled.

The company I worked for had a national qantas budget of >6M and had about 8-10 top exec chairmans lounge members. funny thing was they would never even achieve platinum in their own right in most cases

Re P1 and CL, I understand there's no connection between your being a 'top flyer' and getting an invite. Just a club for CEOs, notables, pollies and as someone else said, if you control a lot of spend on QF.

I read somewhere that the Chairman does actually approve ( or not, I assume) each invite.

I don't sit around all day waiting for an invite ...

If you have to ask then you do not qualify.

There are some CL's who post here on AFF.

As others have said, CEO of an ASX listed company, pollie, celeb, high court judge etc. Qantas Chairman does personally sign off on the memberships which last for two years. My next door neighbour was 3ic of one of the major retailers in Australia (about $2bn in annual sales) and although he was a P1 for many years, only the CEO of that company was a member. My neighbour would have spent the equivalent of 3-4 RTW in F every year flying on company business, but was no closer to being eligible than probably you or I.

What Great posts !!
What great incite!!
What great fun
And what great colleagues who take this in the spirit of information.
I really enjoy you people - hardly any spite - just good information and good fun and a wonderful place to learn from
those of us who spend so much time in metal tubes.
I am happy to be P1 but I would like a better card rather than one with red writing (ha ha)

As others have said here, CL is less about flying than about influence, and is apparently capped at 7,000 members, all of whom must be personally approved by the Chairman of Qantas.

I am only a humble Platinum and I have been inside the Chairmans Lounge. If you get invited to certain Qantas events they sometimes throw in a visit to the Chairmans Lounge as well. ;)

It is OK. Looks just like the First Lounge across the tarmac except the colours of the furniture.

7000 in the Chairmans Club and apparently only 3000 in P1. Seems the more exclusive group would be P1.
