Centurion 2011 Benefits

CX are generally very good with upgrades, especially with their own elites, but to be higher up the system you’d need to keep your number in your booking right up to boarding, otherwise they’d see you as whatever other lower status you are.
Was wondering how they would view Diamond member who purchased Y flight.

Received my CX Diamond offer in mail this morning - first offer from Cent since I took up card on Mar 22.

That’s odd because it feels like a busier than usual year to me so far in terms of Centurion offers. I wonder if it’s different because you’re in Melbourne? For example, so far this year we’ve had invitations to the Archibald Prize (and we are attending next week), the Formula 1, the AFL Grand Final (these last two I thought would have been top of the list for Melbournians), a couple of shopping things including Paspaley in a few weeks, plus a few that I can’t remember/couldn’t attend because we were overseas.

Probably the same as a Diamond member who bought a cheapie? I’m not sure, but if you have a look on FT it’s all very clearly laid out how they look at status. Don’t forget, being any level of AsiaMiles you can confirm an upgrade months out from our flight, so there might not be seats free anyway, but you will be greeted if you’re stuck in Y.

Ultimately there are a million factors… but Diamond is third from the top anyway.

I actually spoke to Cent on Friday and gave them a decent tune up as I had received ZERO offers / correspondence from them since card take up on Mar 22.

I finally got somebody in there to call me back late aft on Friday - I called am on Thursday and am on Friday with no response even though i told the little filly who took my first call there was next to no chance me renewing next year as they seemed unwilling to send me ANY OFFERS.

The guy who called me back said he was a team leader or something and could not understand why I had not received any offers. He asked do you want them via email or snail mail to which i replied either / either as long as I receive them.

He stated he would send out an offer package forthwith via email - here we are 3 days later - nada / zilch / zero.

I did receive AFL Grand Final offer in snail mail today.

What was the AFL Grand Final Deal?
Any good?
We did 4 tickets last year so I am curious.
It cost us 6800 and included 2 functions pre 1st match.

I am Q Club Life and Silver. So flying on Qantas Metal, domestically, is there more value in Diamond MP or QFFSilver ?

I suppose domestically, doesn't make much difference, as you show the card to get into the lounges anyway.

Q wouldn't do anything special for a MPD - would they ?

A CX Diamond (OWE) card will get you into the QF domestic J lounge when you’re flying in whY on QF metal. Your QF Silver status won’t help with that. When flying internationally on a OneWorld flight the CX Diamond card will get you into the QF F lounge. Again your QF Silver status won’t help with that.

But domestically, you just need you MPD card - you can leave your QFF on your boarding pass - that would get you into the Bus lounge no ?

Internationally, I assume you would need your MPD number to get you into the First lounge - showing the card would not help ?

Is a complicated issue - as I don't really want a Asia Rewards account - would prefer the benefits of the MPD, with points and status credits maintaining my Q status :)

Have I missed a simple solution ?

Good questions. Domestically I think you are right - just show your CX Diamond card and your QF BP and you’re into the dom J lounge. Internationally I’m not sure. I agree with you though, I’d rather credit to QF (at this stage) than start all over again with CX. That said, however, if the CX status is going to be comped annually for Centurion members and their earn rates are better than QF (which I understand is the case) then I might want to revise that thinking...

True.

But my international point burn is mainly Sing, so don't really want to start with Asia Miles, as only way to transfer is from Amex. I don't think Citibank would do it.

Wonder what First lounge staff would say - they should let you in, if the name on the card is the same as on your passport.

As MP status is separate to Asia miles, they SHOULD let you have you MPD status listed, and your QFF as the miles earner.

But, that being said, if it is comped annually, I will re-assess - I hope it is.

The simple solution is as you have said, just carry the card for lounge access. Additionally though, when booking a Qantas flight you can add your MPD number, this will allow you to select seats right up the front straight away, then you can remove the number and replace it with your QP PS number to make sure the points arrive.

All you ever need is your card, you can credit your domestic and international flights wherever you like, and show your MPD card to get into the J/F lounge where appropriate.

Earn rates on CX are that you need to earn 120,000 miles every year to renew Diamond. Some fares don’t earn at all, and other cheap fares earn half or less miles, so it becomes hard to hit that target (or did for me and has been for my dad).

As a quick example, a DONE4 could score you Platinum on QF, yet it might get you a little over a quarter of the way to Diamond, depends who and how you fly I guess. All things are relative.

Thanks,

No doubt we have to wait a year to find out. I will experiment, and see which way is better.

I would consider switching to CP, if they brought FC back from Australia. At least the coffins are replaced !!!!

I have an Amex plat charge card and I got the same AFL Grand Final offer in the mail today.

Yes, that was not a Centurion exclusive offer.

BTW if you don’t mind the question, where are you located? I received these offers earlier last week but some people are obviously only getting them now.

+1 in Melbourne

Must've gone Australia-wide - I got it in Sydney too.

...still waiting for some decent offers through this invitation program. Since signing up in Dec the invites have been pretty average. :\ C'mon AMEX - you know what my spend patterns are like, offer me something in accordance!

Are any of these event "offers" really something special? The ones I've received (AFL Grand Final, Fat Duck, AF1GP etc) just look like opportunities to spend money for tickets that are available from other sources in one form or another. They are hardly exclusive.
