Celebrity Cruise around Japan Questions

We did Celebrity Millenium around Japan in May last year and it was great. I’d book now and if you’re after a drink package, book that during Black Friday sales. It should be around 40% off; I’ve never seen the discounts any higher than that. I think all of your questions have been answered on here (accurately), but happy to help out further if required. Our cruise included Jeju Island in South Korea which I would recommend if that itinerary is available.

PS - we didn’t do any of the shore excursions through Celebrity. Very, very easy to make your own arrangements and far cheaper.

LOL Ponant is waaaay too rich for our blood! I'm just glad Celebrity is somewhat reasonable. We did Carnival a few months ago and the itinerary was ok as it went where I wanted in Vanuatu for birding but I wasn't keen on the silliness of shipboard life. We don't drink and on a port intensive cruise we can use our Vodafone roaming in ports or eSIm, Japan probably has wifi everywhere if I take my laptop ashore.

Yes, Jeju is on the Solstice itinerary. I think they have to do a foreign port to avoid cabotage. Yes we usually do our own shore arrangements, especially when public transport is efficient as I expect Japan to be. This may or may not be our last cruise. We are getting to the age when travel insurance gets expensive, at least my husband is. We've already done Panama Canal, Mediterranean, Caribbean twice, several Pacific Island cruises. I wouldn't mind Antarctica but I can't see me being able to afford it, never mind what travel insurance for that region probably costs! I'd like to do northern Europe that includes the Russian and Scandinavian ports if the situation ever stabilizes.

So I will hold off until Black Friday but keep checking to make sure availability is still there. Japan seems to attract a more well-heeled crowd so inside cabins aren't that popular, everyone wants at least a balcony.

Looks like people book cruises over a year ahead?

Per other comments, at least a year. Some 2029 sailings on sale now; I have 2 confirmed for mid 2028, booked months ago (per the above, cancellation a year out only $250, so call that an option price). Price and cabin selection are two main factors for me.

I have a cruise booked for 2028 and 2029. 2028 for the same cruise is already sold out.
