Canberra Airport’s $480 million transformed terminal has taken out the top development accolade at the Australian Property Institute’s ACT excellence awards.

The property development award was presented to the Canberra Airport Group for delivering a high-quality project that has a significant impact on industry and the ACT.

The transformed airport was also recently named Australian airport of the year.

It certainly looks different to my last visit. Am looking forward to seeing it on 15 Dec.

It's pretty swish for a city the size of CBR that's for sure. The QF lounges are fantastic as well. Great staff there too.

It's just a pity people can't drive to the terminal to pick people up. Nice design, run by the usual money grabbing people.

A couple of recent photos of the new terminal and precinct. I think they have done a really nice job with it so far. It is a nice layout and the entry is quite simple but effective. I do agree about the nonsense of no pick up at the terminal though

It's my favourite overall airport in Aus that's for sure!

Bags are out every time pretty much as I walk up to the carousel
QF lounges and staff there are fantastic

I've been lucky enough to always get get picked up, so I haven't noticed any taxis lining up straight out the old front door. Where are they now?

As you exit the terminal on the ground floor they line up on the ground floor, inside the building to the right hand side which I think is a multi storey car park.

And now there's a new taxi rank.

There are two very common first impressions of Canberra often shared on social media – the weather and waiting at the airport’s taxi rank.

Particularly on the wintry sitting weeks, Canberra’s fly-in, fly-out population of politicians and staffers share with the world how cold it is to stand in the long queue for a cab.

But the opening of an undercover taxi rank on Monday will hopefully go at least a small way to changing that.

Travellers are now able to line-up protected from the elements in an enclosed, undercover waiting area before being ushered out as taxis arrive to whisk them away.

I was there back in August and agree it looks great, however one thing I noticed was the lack of directional signage outside the terminal (for check in counters, the taxi rank etc) although I expect that's been sorted by now.

Not sure how many $480 new buildings in the ACT it was competing against. Agree however that it does look pretty good. Both Qantas and Virgin lounges are pretty spacious because there aren't that many planes going at any one time. Baggage too is easy because they don't have many planes to unload.

Would love to see Tiger or Jetstar come to Canberra. I tend to fly from CBR for work and drive to Sydney for personal travel.

Can't see either airline flying out of CBR, no government agency would risk the delays of Tiger and there really isn't the market there for an LCC. Especially when you can get a $15 bus trip to SYD.

We used to have Tiger here, after the grounding when they reduced the number of destinations we "lost" the TT service.
It was a single flight, which although cheap there where a few stories about interesting times.

Personally I think what they have done with the new terminal is great. It looks good, it is no longer a wasteland beyond security, it's nice and open...
I am still curious about the international section, and if an airline ever offered international flights direct from CBR I'd be curious to try it, although to be honest I'd probably still connect through SYD / MEL / BNE, since the aircraft used is likely to be better from one of the traditional international ports.

VA is pretty desperate to try and crack CBR, you never know they may throw TT back onto you!

Be careful what you wish for ;)

Ain't wishing for anything, as I said, we "lost" the TT service, notice the quotes...

As for VA cracking the market? I thought they had pretty much cracked it? They run nearly as many flights from CBR as QF does, and AFAIK they are similar loads to QF.
