Cats and Dogs

Is it bad that I am reluctant to reply to this thread for fear that my favourites might get booked out when I need them?

Anyway, most of the time I try and coerce a friend into looking after her for me but when I can't I have found both the Paddington Cat Hospital and Paws Paws very good. Sorry apparently I am not allowed to post links yet just google it the website is pretty obvious. Paw Paws are actually very convenient as they are in Waterloo so very close to Sydney airport.

munitalP, have you looked at Lara Cattery? The place is just amazing, and people even send their cats from overseas to stay here. They even get their own outdoor area and heat lamp, its like a 5 star hotel for the cats :)

+1 I have had colleagues in geelong recommend including some who subsequently moved to eastern Melbourne and still take their pets there!

For Brisbane cat owner's we have used Carmichaels Cattery at Yatala many times.

Owner's Sonia and Shane are lovely and very caring. Cats only which is important for us; less stress on our girls Delilah and Isabelle.

We are currently away 2 weeks and received an email last week in NZ from Sonia that Isabelle was attempting to urinate frequently without much success, which she hadn't done before there or with us at home. Thought it best to get her a Vet check and here was Sonia's reply:

Hi Craig,

The little miss has been for her trip to the cat doctor. I called after we
were emailing yesterday afternoon and they said to just bring her straight
up once we had closed.

They seem to think it is a bit of cystitis so they have given her the
anti-inflammatory injection to reduce any swelling of her bladder, and we
just have to feed her wet food for the next 5 days and see if there is a
change in her behaviour. He wasn't sure of the exact cause as she didn't
seem stressed at all, but apparently it can just be a bacterial thing that
cats get.

They thought they would start with the anti-inflammatory first, and send her
back with us. She was very sooky towards us, and he seemed to think it might
do more damage than good if they kept her in overnight, and possibly cause
stress by having tests that might not need to be done.

She was a perfect little angel at the vet - although we heard about it all
the way there and back, as you can imagine!

I haven't noticed any strange behaviour so far this morning, although she is
sound asleep in the sun on the deck. I will keep a close eye on her and keep
you updated.

Regards,
Sonia

Hence we are very confident our girls are in good hands and highly recommend Carmichaels Cattery! 5 stars *****

PS We live at Indooroopilly and drive the 45 mins to get there which is the only negative.

If I sent my ferals (2 kittens, 1 turtle, countless fish) to one of those places they wouldn't want to come home  No air con or heating here, and though there is a flat screen they're locked out of that room most of the time. Not to mention the turtle probably wouldn't appreciate quality tv anyway (he's a bit dumb).

We take the easy way out and my sister in law generally house sits for us :) The turtle can live 2 weeks or so easily without us, but the new kittens are a different story (I came home after a week and my office was totally trashed out of spite!)

Hi, we live in Sydney and usually take quite long trips, both business and pleasure. We have tried both Meadow Mist and hanrob, in "private suites", but our dog came back each time quite stressed and lost a consideable amount of weight.
We have now found "Dont Fret Pet", it is a franchise service in each State, and is a home care/stay situation. On our last 3 Bookings, we have been able to place our very spoilt dog with people who don't mind having her inside. This is important to us as she has the run of our house and sleeps inside. Most of the Carers are people who have previously had their own animals and after they lost them, they didn't want to buy another pet, but still like to have Pets in their lives.
We have found the Rates for Dont Fret Pet about the same as the "Suites" at Meadow Mist etc.
For those interested, here is their website Dog Boarding Dog Minding Dog Accommodation Pet Sitting Pet Minding

My cat Sam decided he wasn't going to the cattery any more and hijacked my suitcase - that is a Louis Vuitton tie he has "moved" to suit himself (and played with for a while!)... I just thought I would share :)

Okay seems like this could be a cat thing Australia-wide!

Tiffany places herself positioned, packed, and ready to travel - anywhere but NOT the Cattery!

Delilah preventing any packing of bags in the hope of NO trip to the Cattery!

When I had a cat (I have every intention of getting another, just not right now), I used to board it here and was very happy with them (quite a few years ago now). Obviously they do dogs as well but I've never been a dog owner so cannot comment.

My mum boards (small) dogs via a lady who has a business doing this (though 'dog lady' caters for dogs of all sizes), and who 'sublets' any overflow. It's quite a nice little earner for Mum as a sideline and she has had many repeat 'guests'. Happy to pass on "dog lady's" details (Eastern suburbs of Melbourne) to anyone who is interested.

munitalP, that is just such a typical cat, and one reason I like them!

My Charlie is a fiend for getting in a suitcase to prevent any packing too! Jumping in and out and attacking hands trying to fold things is an even better distraction. I also have to get the cat box out from it's hiding spot at least 24 hrs before it's needed or she disappears under the bed and absolutely will not come out. Only bad things happen when you go in the cat box apparently.

If you're (way) northside Brisbane we used to board our cats at Cypress Lodge Burpengary. It was pretty basic but then hey we travelled economy so the cats weren't getting business class.

That hasn't been for several years. We decided they were much happier hanging around at home. We now use home pet care services who feed the cats (and would take them to the vet if they got crook), give them a pat and water the pot plants. Now both our plants and our animals live.
