I got that too but I really hope it's a weird joke...

I have zero intention of booking a Cathay ticket but if in the past (pre covid) they'd made me sit in a "virtual waiting room" I would have already started to look elsewhere.

Also just looked from Brisbane to Europe this Dec/Jan and they're only selling full flex business class fares.

Very hillarious reading all the doomsayers here about CX when they are essentially underwritten by the government like how Qantas is in AU (too important to fail). I got an email about a CX sale this afternoon, and sadly passed although the timing was right. I don't trust the HK Government not to make arbitrary decisions about lockdowns and lockouts at the behest of Beijing.

From what I can see, the “Sale” is almost some sort of click bait! I can’t see any of the advertised fares actually bookable. Worse, ex-SYD the cheapest option to LHR is via an o/n in MEL. The cheapest ex-MEL is via SYD! WT…?

I remember being in the CX lounge and later on the aircraft when announcements were being made that owing to Chinese Govt ATC restrictions the flight was delayed. This was as recent as 2017-18. The CX staff were quick to point out that CX was often harassed in this way. And now you say that the Chinese govt is underwriting CX? Is there a reference for when this turn-around occurred?

I agree with that... what they want to do is to wipe away all existance of British rule in HK, and CX is a big reminder of that British rule in HK

70% of the airspace in China is controlled/restricted by the military and its why flights in the Mainland are frequently delayed. This is not something that's specifically aimed at CX but obviously has an impact on them like on the other Mainland carriers.

Its been well documented that the HK Government gave a bailout (loan + equity) to CX of 3.8billion (USD). I reckon that's a pretty strong signal that they want CX to survive.

There has been some talk for a while that CX will return to ADL and it now sounds like it’s finally happening with 5x weekly flights on the A350 from the end of October.

Does anybody know where to buy these airfares? I checked Cathay Pacific website/google flights/ qantas website but couldnt see anything direct from ADL to HKG. All options I found routed through SYD or MEL.
