Carrying medications into Thailand

In another thread, @Flyfrequently brought up the issue of needing a permit to carry certain medications into Thailand.

I have a one night stopover at BKK at the end of this year and was unaware of the issue although I probably would’ve looked it up before I left.

I found this form

And I see common medication such as those containing codeine and temazepam need a permit. looks like I’ll be applying for a permit and it says you have to enter by the red channel on arrival.

Does anyone have experience either applying for the permit and/or presenting yourself at the red channel for this?

I will report back after my entry to the Land of Smiles next week.
I found the permit form a bit clunky but permit did come through very quickly.
And when I had difficulty with my birth date, I was able to email and reply promptly received.

I have three nights in Bangkok in mid November this year and need to take codeine linctus with me, so i will report my progress as I go. I was thinking of starting the application about a month out from travel. Do you think that will be long enough to get it all done @Flyfrequently?

I still think that Safe Traveller is a solid resource for starting to gather info. There is a separate Medication section for info

Website states the form should be submitted no earlier than one month @Seat0B
We go on Monday 2nd September, saw GP for clarification and got her letter to accompany the application on Monday 5th August.
Response was prompt.
Will check exact timeline and report back.

Reporting in: @Seat0B @RooFlyer :

Arrived at Koh Samui airport Monday evening, first off the plane and ferried across to their very tropical terminal in a golf buggy.
Walked past an unmanned desk with Food and Drug Administration sign. Kept walking about 10 metres ( it is a  very small airport!)

Found ground staff member and asked for "Red Channel" then "Declare Medication" - still a blank look.
Turned around to see desk now manned. Walked back the 10 metres, another blank look!
Pointed to the sign that had Medications on it - oh, ok.
I show the permit with the meds, he calls someone else over, more blank looks. Gets out his phone, takes photo of permit and pills and on our way - and walked the 10 metres to the baggage carousel!
Collected suitcase and guitar and off we go, took maybe 15 minutes from disembarking to transport.

I imagine Bangkok would be quite different.

Thanks for reporting in. This is the same sort of reaction I got in Tokyo. I’ll also report back on Bangkok in late November.
