I can't see any damage to the AA B777 but who knows from that distance. Good to hear that the flight was cancelled for an inspection!

Cargo catches fire moments before plane takes off at Hong Kong airport

Considering the flight was cancelled, don't you just love the clickbait title?

Seems to have started from ground equipment based on the following

The airline spokesman clarified that “an external piece of loading equipment had a mechanical issue and caught fire while preparing to put cargo in the hold of American Airlines flight 192 from Hong Kong (HKG) to Los Angeles (LAX) (…) As a result, a pallet on the loading equipment containing non-hazardous goods also caught fire.”

This video really shocks me in so many ways.

  • Seems workers have no idea what to do
  • Workers make no attempt to move the loading vehicle away from the plane
  • They just stand around watching while the fire takes hold
  • Nobody makes any effort to go to the aid of the worker who jumps/falls from the loader until he has dragged himself some distance from the plane
  • Seems like a long time until you even hear the sirens start - what didn't any of the workers think to call the fire service?
