This is a useful site that has been around a long time New Zealand Travel Reviews - Online Internet Traveler Reviews, Opinions, Forums & Travel Information on New Zealand NZ
As do I. But w used them in 2014 so just a little while ago.I like APEX
I always check the Qantas website. I saved 10% on Avis over the Avis Prefered price by booking via Qantas, (and I got a free upgrade)Trying to help a relative who needs to rent a car in Auckland for 2 weeks touring around. I have perused the forum but info was a bit dated. They need a small car, old / used car would be OK. Avoid big / expensive car rental companies. Please suggest / recommend good local companies? Thanks.
What AVIS “Preferred” price? AFAIK, there’s no ongoing discount but you will get promo offers from time to time. The main thing with “Preferred” is speedier pickup (sometimes) and some other benefits. Rent enough and your almost guaranteed a 1 or 2 category upgrade (although, not always useful).I always check the Qantas website. Full insurance cover included for that? I like to be fully covered.Back from NZ yesterday. 8 day car hire (Mitsubishi Outlander) $570 AUD.
What TI do you have? Does it cover Rental car Excess and if so, up to how much?Full insurance cover included for that? I like to be fully covered.
We just returned from NZ. We rented an Avis car for 2 weeks but in the past have used Apex who we were very happy with. Petrol cost was $3.39 when we filled up on Sunday. Be careful with the small car - those roads are windy depending on where you are travelling.Trying to help a relative who needs to rent a car in Auckland for 2 weeks touring around. When I’m in a non-English speaking country, I often consider taking the “Excess Reduction” just for peace of mind. Saved me a severe heartache in Costa Rica when a guy on a bike slammed into the side of the car. Filled in a form and I was on my way to the flight - no stress.Rental insurance is always the issue. Obviously it is always less problematic taking the insurance from the supplier but often this is at a premium. While travel.insurance often carries excess charges as part of the package it can be nausea if needed, getting it all sorted out.
The zero excess is probably half that price?I have in September 7days car hire from AKL via Sixt at 1,000NZD! Fully cancelable, All inclusive, additional driver, zero excess etc. CDAR/Sedan size. I'm not convinced I'm seeing better value at the moment....![]()
48 dollars per day...336 dollars NZ for the week. I also took the one off 9 dollars toll fee. When I’m in a non-English speaking country, I often consider taking the “Excess Reduction” just for peace of mind. Personally, I’d pass on that ER fee given it’s NZ.48 dollars per day...336 dollars NZ for the week. I also took the one off 9 dollars toll fee.
The loyalty program price has, IME, been cheaper than the one without quoting membership via the AVIS website. Not necessarily the cheapest AVIS price one can get however. What AVIS “Preferred” price?
I’ll double check but when I’m not logged in v logged in, the price is exactly the same and I’m “President Circle” with AVIS.The loyalty program price has, IME, been cheaper than the one without quoting membership via the AVIS website.
Correct. 5% or 10% is relatively easy with some cards / professional associations etc but a good corporate rate is closer to 50%.Not necessarily the cheapest AVIS price one can get however.

Your AWD can be attached to your preferred membership by default, they have a good program for SMB SME | Avis Car Rental or use another AWD such as Accor/Hilton/NRMA etc see https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/avi...wd-codes-thread-only-311-printerfriendly.htmlWhat AVIS “Preferred” price?
