Hi,
Going on a bit of a bucket list trip to the US in May this year - let’s hope the orange man doesn’t get up to too many shenanigans before then :).
Need to get a car in New York for 12 days and drop off in Toronto.
Checked all of the usual sites and they are quite expensive, looking at RAV4 size or larger and even with paying early is about AUD 1,800.
Any tips on finding something a bit cheaper, don’t need brand new car either, up to 4 years old would still do.

Cheers

Have you looked at just going to Buffalo and then use public transport to get to Toronto. The increase cost could be crossing the border.

One way is always going to command a surcharge

I managed to get an AVIS car from BOS to downtown Montreal in late 2023 for US$665 (about 1 wk rental). In part to get to an around Maine but needed to get to YUL and that actually wasn’t that easy flying.

I did call to double check that it was allowable and it was. I just needed to make sure I was provided the appropriate insurance certificate. As it turned out, they gave me a Canadian plated car - so I was doing them a favour!

There is a train from New York that crosses the border also. It wasn’t fully back up and running when I was looking. But something to look at - maybe in combo with a car within the US.
