In November, well after the excitement of the World Cup, I'm heading to Cape Town for a conference in the V&A at The One & Only resort. Rooms at that hotel are running about $700/nt. Given that I'll be at the conference for most of the day from 8am-11pm it seems expensive place to sleep.

Does anyone have a particular heads up on a more reasonable and safe accommodation or apartments in the waterfront area of Cape Town?

From memory it's not particularly close to the waterfront but in May last year I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. It is in a decent area (in my experience at least) and was a comfortable and clean hotel.

The Westin is probably your next best bet. Its very close to V&A and is a new hotel. The Hop on/off bus route is directly out front too if thats your thing.

I visit Cape Town reguarly and I always stay at the Cullinan Hotel, opposite the Westin and the convention Centre, It has a shuttle to the V & A Waterfront (5 mins) & has a great feel about it.

It is very safe & often hosts major sporting teams...English Cricket team, Boks etc...haven't run into the Aussies there yet!

For local rates in Rand book at the following web site... www.southernsun.com/SSH/VHB/d6ad77afe6449010VgnVCM1000001b3d17acRCRD/43/47

You should pay around A$200 per night or less...they accept A$ Cr cards online.

I have also stayed at The Cullinan. It was part of a post cruise package and included breakfast. Our stay was for 3 nights in June 2009. We were most impressed with the hotel and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Thanks. I like the proximity of Westin. Both of these look like good alternatives. Thanks.

Try the Commodore near the waterfront. Good hotel back in 2004. Work paid but I dont think it was overly expensive.

I stayed at the Holiday Express in Central CT last year and would also definitely give it a thumbs up. There is also a decent very reasonably priced restaurant opposite, so you wont have to look far for something to eat. Short taxi ride to V and A.
