Can't book one way international from outside Aus

I am trying to book GVA-BNE one way.
I can see the VA code shares on Qatar when I do a return on VA website.
But you can't book this on the website.
Called the service centre - they told me that the flight cannot be booked as VA are not an international carrier.
Anyhoo, I have seen conflicting information on the interweb about being able to do such.

Seeing all other airlines force you to use and pay in the country of the origin for the first leg of the booking I'm not surprised VA responded like this.
Have you tried the OTA's for the same route to see if they can come up with it?

Easy to do with a regular TA as well. Mine will charge in A$ @ spot for something like this, and no cc fees.

Correct. A travel agent won't be able to make this happen.

TAs can piece together international multicity that the VA website does not allow...they can't just disregard the fare rules and agreement for VA codeshare.

So let’s end on a good note.
Ended up booking directly with Qatar.
$1920 fare
Qatar promo code took it to $1800
Amex $200 discount took it to $1600
Topcashback 4% saving took it to $1538
Late 20s daughter has to get back to Aus on that date.
Some reward fares available but lots of $$ fare supplement.
Could have come home via USA for 80k velocity points. 35 hour flight, I wouldn’t subject her to that.
She owes me a big one.
