Cannot re-link BA and Qatar accounts

I somehow managed to delink my BA and Qatar airways accounts. After weeks of trying to relink them and deleting Qatar accounts and trying with fresh accounts I am now completely locked out of linking accounts according to Qatar customer service. Apparently "If account is already linked with any previous account, then the system will prompt you that you have exceeded the limit of linking." This is pretty finite and very frustrating as I want to transfer a lot of citi rewards points to avios with the sole intention of using on Qatar avios reward flight redemption.

I believe my name and date of birth is now locked from linking on BA and Qatar and when signing up to the accounts Qatar and BA make it clear these details need to match your passport and cannot be amended after joining.

My only remaining option is to have my wife setup an account in both Qatar and BA and transfer the citi rewards points to that account which will be in her name. However I am wondering now will this be an issue if I need to book a redemption flight on Qatar for me only i.e. her name will not be on the booking. Does anyone know if you can book flights for other people on Qatar avios redemption when you arent on the booking as well?

I would urge extreme caution. My attempt to link a new QR account to my BA one led to the permanent suspension of my QR account. My name and date of birth are now banned from ever having a QR account.

Do you know if BA & QR match your address in addition to name, DoB etc?

I have a BAEC account with a UK address matching my UK points credit card. But I am domiciled in Australia.

The easy thing to do would be to use the same address setting up my QR account but it’s ‘untidy’ and, you know, digging deeper & deeper holes ……. 😉

Update on this. I deleted by BA account my writing them a letter (in 2023 I know) and am now waiting to cleanse my details from their system which I can only 14 months after my last flight with them (convoluted). I will then try and re-link Qatar and BA with no guarantee it will work. However on the plus side I realised that qatar website itself offers the same redemptions for the flight I want with just a bit less availability I think.

I don't know but I don't think so

That is awful and completely OTT. What is their reasoning for being so draconian? Did you lose any avios?

No explanation given - my QR account came back to life after a year in suspension. I did not lose Avios - other than the 1,000 points I was promised for linking the BA and QR accounts. Looking back, I think the issue was that the BA account did not have my middle names but the QR one did. I changed the BA account to include them when they wouldn't link, but this triggered some kind of alarm with QR.

I've just transferred 135k avios from Citi to Qatar. Now iam scared to try and link BA and qatar again for fear of losing the points.

I'm trying to re-link my accounts but after clicking through from Qatar, the sign-in page of BA sends the OTP to an old German mobile number that hasn't been registered in BAs system for over 6 months (this is also confirmed by BA).

I've been back and forth with BA for months without any solution. As I can log in to BA Exec without any problems, is there a way to link the two accounts from BA (instead of via the link on my Qatar dashboard)?
