Have a flight tomorrow so trying to Online Check-In 20 hours before flight. Would not let check-in. Got onto chat and asked if there was a problem, and got this

"I was able to check that all tickets are now under control of the airport. With this, you'll need to check in at the airport. This can only happen when your flight is close to your departure date. With this, our airport staff makes all final checks to ensure that your flight is safe to take off. Alternatively, it is also best for you to check-in at the airport if it's unavailable by the time you try to do online check-in."

It's a Sale fare seat, but I've never had this experience, and with this wacky reason. I travel for work about 4-5 times a year internationally with other airlines.

Is this normal? I now have to check-in at the airport with my wife and hope we're together in decent seats.

Not impressed.

Do you have any connecting flights? For the past year or maybe more Qantas have been "upgrading" their check in experience and it's typically impossible to check in online for any international flight with connections. So QF can't do what every other OneWorld airline manages to do (and also something they used to be able to do...)

If this is an international sector it may not be allowed for OLCI, though most destinations now are. Also if there's a partner connection in there that can cause an issue too.

If it's domestic it shouldn't be an issue to do OLCI unless it's a QFLink flight.

Have you tried both the app and full website check in?

I had the same issue yesterday, but the mobile app worked.
Didn't help at SYD int-dom transfer this morning where they insisted I should queue up for a printed BP.
Took the Tbus instead.

Fare type shouldn't make any difference. If the route is supported and the flight is operated by Qantas, OLCI should be available to all fares/classes.

Sharing the flight number would help us identify whether OLCI is usually offered. In any case, if you and your wife are on the same booking you should be seated together, even if checked in at the airport.

You can choose seats without checking in, so do that to give yourself comfort that you will be seated together.

In past I've been prevented from checking in online where I have an exit row seat, as they generally want to sight you to verify you are in fat able to help in an emergency.

Also you can choose seats without checking in

Good point, although I don't believe this is possible on Sale fares when flying international. It can only be done when OLCI opens.

It is possible, if you don't have status you have to pay for the privilege

Hi all. Direct flight to Singapore (and return). QF35. Just Singapore and back.

Be careful trying to choose seats from the booking once OLCI has opened. The seat maps are no longer in sync and you may find the seat you think you have chosen is not the seat you'll be allocated at check-in.

I've had this happen to me a few times.
