Have a flight tomorrow so trying to Online Check-In 20 hours before flight. Would not let check-in. Got onto chat and asked if there was a problem, and got this

With this, our airport staff makes all final checks to ensure that your flight is safe to take off. Alternatively, it is also best for you to check-in at the airport if it's unavailable by the time you try to do online check-in."
It's a Sale fare seat, but I've never had this experience, and with this wacky reason. I travel for work about 4-5 times a year internationally with other airlines.
Is this normal? I now have to check-in at the airport with my wife and hope we're together in decent seats.
