Cancelling a flight does not seem to cancel check in if you've already checked in before you cancel

Or maybe, not check-in until you are certain about your travel?
The only situations in which I can see any valid reason to check in before arrival at the airport (as a rev PAX) are:
(1) if you arriving late and travelling HLO; or
(2) if the airline only allows you to select a seat at checkin.

Fortunately, I have not yet had to cancel a flight. Such a remote possibility for me (touch wood) that I’m not likely to change current habits.

Definitely that is the easiest all round (particularly for changes), but if someone has checked in, then the system shouldn’t allow a cancellation without un-checking in.

With the app spamming you to check in, you feel like you’re doing the wrong thing by not doing what it tells you. But it really makes little difference if you’ve already done your seat selection and keeps the flexibility if you might need to change.
