I have a couple of Reward flights coming up through AA (one Cathay, one Etihad). Both, as you would expect have been cancelled but are just sitting there in my account and have been doing so for a week or so, so I guess this means I will have to ring to cancel. Am dreading this somewhat based on tales of long waits but does anyone have recent experience with AA, are the wait times coming down?. First of these is still three weeks away, so not sure if I bite the bullet and ring now or wait.

In early March we were due to fly EY, IB and QR to an overseas conference which was called off at the last minute. We had booked these on AA points, called the usual Sydney based number for AA. On the three or four occasions we called, it ended up in the Carribean, where we had excellent operators in Sean, Nigel and Jessica who made the exercise as painless as possible. One of the changes took Sean an hour and a half to complete. Though early on the wait times were quite long, when things quitened a bit, we got thru immediately. If you call that Sydney number, and select option 3 (AAdvantage), you are prioritised.

We had AA points used to book Etihad Syd- Milan flying out today! Once the flights were cancelled by Etihad three weeks or so ago I rang the Australian AA number which connected to wherever within 5mins. The operator checked the booking and promptly processed the refund of points and fees - showed up two days later I think. Pretty painless, apart from the holiday...
