Can you use QFF points to book through AAadvantage??

Hello everyone, a newbie poster who appreciates all the advice and information on this site. I am planning a trip to USA next August and whilst researching flights I noticed that AA offer award flights from HNL to LAX in business class for 37500 points one way. I then did the same search through QF and for the same flight it is 75000 points.

So my question is, can I use my QFF points and book directly through the AAadvantage site???

Not quite - only travel on Qantas flight numbers in X, N, Q, E, U, Z, P class [-]can[/-] generally does not earn earn AAdvantage Miles; travel in all other classes may.

Also, Amex MR points can be transferred to AAdvantage (via SPG) at a rate from 1000 to 500 and then on to AAdvantage to give 500 Miles. (Note that 40,000 MR convert to 20,000 SPG which convert to 25,000 AAdvantage).

Serfty, I was looking on the USA Amex MR site and that shows 1000 MR equals 330. So you are obviously talking about the Aus site?

And you are probably one of the only people who earns at a better rate on AA thanks to your B class airfares.

Actually this year all flights have been V, L or M class domestic flights. Earning at the same rate as would with QF - ie 1000 miles per BNE-SYD or BNE-MEL sector. The status bonus on CX and JL is not only for B class fares, but for any earning fare. The only time B class fares are a big benefit is when considering AA's EQP (Elite Qualifying Points), which is only related to earning status and not to earning miles verses points.

So unless purchasing a non-earning fare, short-haul QF domestic fares are going to earn at the same rate for AA and QF (1000 points or miles). Its possible that longer flights at discounted fares may earn at a base rate of 50%. But I have yet to have a flight where I would have earned more QFF points that AA miles, but I am certain there would be possible examples. Status earning is a different matter.

Yeah, I guess I am one of the minority who earns more points/miles from flying than from credit card spending or shopping.
