Can you include Tahiti in a 280K RTW QFF redemption fare?

Hi,

I am hoping others will know the answer. I am thinking of a 280K J class OneWorld FF redemption. I am wanting to go to America and Europe but would like to include Tahiti as well. Is this possible?

Qantas doesn't seem to fly to Tahiti itself but seems to sell Air Tahiti fares. Air Tahiti isn't a OneWorld member itself but is sort of affiliated through Qantas I gather.

Any way of doing that sort of trip?

Thanks,
Dale.

Only flights operated by oneworld airlines are allowed. You can in theory fly Santiago-Easter Island-Papeete and back again on LAN but this only operates once a week, is a huge detour and eats up a lot of your mileage allowance. There are so many more island destinations around the world which is more accessible on a oneworld redemption.

The TN flight from AKL has QF codeshares so you should be able to redeem using QFF.
You can use them on a Global Explorer fare but not on a xONE.

Just had a look at QF and not in their drop down list but that means nothing.
You can use Aadvantage from AKL-PPT though.

I've faced the same question in the last 2 weeks myself dalereardon and after much searching (9 months out from my intended travel) I gave up and booked a week in Cancun as a consolation prize (a pretty poor consolation for time in Tahiti, I know).

There are several factors which compound the problem - the lack of oneworld airline flights which makes connections impossible without wasting one or more of your 5 allowed stopovers (and hotel costs etc as well), the finicky route you have to take via Easter Island on LAN (as aikman said) and the lack of award seats on those flights even if you can "work" the timetable. Since you mentioned the 280K points option you are obviously looking at J tickets. I found that finding J award seats on LAN flights to travel - either inbound or outbound - via South America (even taking PPT out of the equation) was impossible. I didn't look at Y availability though since we were intent on travelling J, but maybe that might be your only hope.
