Morning All,

My little one is just over two now, so she needs her own seat. I am looking at doing a SYD - BNE - SYD trip on my visit home from Canada. Since I'm back in Aus, I want to continue travelling business to keep my SCs up.

Is it possible for the phone booking (prob riskier to do online) to book an economy ticket for the little one on a flight that will give me confirmed availability to instant upgrade to Business. Then, once that has been done, book myself a business class ticket on that flight? Havent been home for a while, so I'm not sure whether they still do the Instant Upgrades?

Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, won't get an instant upgrade with points on QF. Have to register for an upgrade but no guarantee.

On domestic flights if there is seat class availability you do indeed get an instant upgrade. The OP however would need to book a flight where there are two award seats available and then ring to book the child.

Thanks markis10, I knew that was the case a last year or so, but I haven't kept abreast of all the changes.
So it is worth giving it a try through the call centre?

You won't be able to book the child first. No airline will allow a 2 year old to travel by themselves. You'd need to book the adult, then the child (or at least at the same time).

My experience in general with similar situations is that if you get through to premium desk there wont be much problem (subject to availability - interpreted some what loosely U2 should be no prob and a U1 I1 may be ok too). You will pay the booking fees though. Qantas phone service is one of the best parts of Qantas WP.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Just an FYI for those that were curious...
Rang the help desk and all went through ok. I had a lovely lady who helped me and checked that both flights had availability for us. Booked mine first, then did the little one and linked the booking together.
No booking fees charged, and nor did I need to ask to have them waived.

She basically did what I would've done online if I was sure it would work. Then I could've rang the help desk and asked them to link us.

Thanks all!
