hey guys,

1st post here so hopefully you are all gentle :)

Im looking to purchase my parents tickets to fly to the USA for my Uncles surprise 60th via Qantas.

now am i able to purchase this on my credit card through qantas under their name?
i dont think my bank will cover them for travel insurance so i will need to get that separately for them.

Alos can they claim FF points for me via this? :D

any help appreciated

Welcome to AFF, points are only awarded to those that fly, no points are given to someone who may buy the tickets on their behalf, which is possible.

Yes, you can book for anyone using the website provided you have all the required info. This would include passport info for the USA.

Only the person flying gets the points.

I'm not sure if your parents are members of Qantas Frequent Flyer, but you could always sign both of them up for free via Woolworths Everyday Rewards. They would each earn roughly 15,000 points for the return trip (assuming Aus east coast -> LAX), which they could then transfer to you if they had no use for them. 30k points is enough for a one-way flight to HKG (plus taxes), so it's worth the effort!

Also, you will still earn any usual points from your credit card (if you have an awards type card that is) :)

I suspect you don't travel that frequently so as mentioned above, ensure your parents have passports, and ensure they apply on https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/ for the Electronic System for Travel Authorization which you must complete for travel to the USA.

I wasn't actually saying the parents will need passports. More that the OP will need the passport details to do the ETSA.

Just a question, if OP purchases tickets for parents with his credit card, and then if checkin agent asks for the credit card, what happens then? Assuming OP won't be at the airport...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

This is a requirement of some Asian airlines. SQ and TG are two that have asked for my CC at check in. it's not a requirement for QF though. (except for the annoying requirements when booking flights ex BKK)

Flying AU to US it won't be an issue on QF

It becomes an issue purchasing tickets ex some Asian countries (BKK, HKG), you are able to get it sorted over the phone before you get anywhere near an airport.

ok. So if you book ex SYD on SQ,TG,VS or any other airlines check in agent at SYD won't question you? And also the return flight.

I am referring to QF ex AU, as the OP was directly asking about an AU to US fare.

I am sure that you could find the information for those airlines on their appropriate websites.
