I'm heading to BKK next week and my entire trip has been booked on points after work decided to finally cash some in. I'm booked in Economy flying CX to HKG then on to BKK. On the way back I'm flying BKK-HKG CX and QF home. Is it at all possible to get a complimentary upgrade to J with this type of restricted fare? I'm currently QF SG. I think I know the answer and I'm not holding my breath! :-|

There is no reason someone could not get an op-up on an award flight.

In fact I had one, and my father op-uped as well, PER-SYD on the A330 in September 2009.

I am not trying to be rude in anyway but I would not hold my breath waiting for an op-up. They are extremely rare and just be prepared to fly in the class booked. If you do happen to get an op-up then this is a huge bonus but should never be expected even if flights are full.
