Can I add QF 11/12 to an existing QF93/94 ticket?

I am booked on QF 93/94 (booked direct through Qantas) and now decided to go to New York instead (at least in one direction).
Does anyone know if Qantas allows you to add the QF11/12 leg to the already existing PNR? Does that satisfy the "international" rule with regard to US domestic flights?

A travel agent at least could add new flights to the existing PNR. As it's a Qantas flight to JFK and not AA code share, it doesn't have to satisfy the 'International' thing, unless you are talking about later, AA flights, which would also be OK if attached to the same PNR.

So I just got off the phone from Qantas and YES you can - you have to book it through them (or the agent you used) - and remarkably very cost effective! On a discount Y MEL-LAX-MEL ticket, adding JFK-LAX for the return leg was only $300ish - compared to $463 for the cheapest AA non-stop flight (and not on a 787).

Qantas has a lot of empty seats on these flights due to the number of passengers who don't continue onto NYC, since they aren't allowed to sell them separately. So they don't charge very much extra as their potential customer base is quite small compared to a general flight. But I suppose it's still cost effective to run the flight as they want the ability to say they fly to New York, and they probably have decent premium seat yield (and maybe cargo).

Note however that i the American flight happens to be on an A320, it would actually have wider seats than the Qantas-configured 787 in economy with 3-3-3. I'd still take Qantas though as you may be more likely to have an empty seat next to you (and American might be a 737 or 757 which have the same width as QF's 787).
