Hey there people,
am travelling on QF28 SCL-SYD on 6th March. I purchased a Y+ fare, but put in for a points upgrade to J.

I am P1, so status-wise I should be ok. But when I look at loadings, I am a tad unsure as QF and LAN split the seatmap. It appears to me that there are heaps of seats still there in J, but are there?

This is an important flight for me. It is now only 5 days from flight and have heard nothing from P1 team re upgrade (they claim "up to 7 days" notice).

Can anyone give me a more professional take on the loadings on that flight? QF28, LA806?

Are you using the seatmap to determine the loading?

I do not know how to determine loading. I assume seatmaps only show seats booked (ie there may be many pax who have not selected seats?)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Seat-maps are not much help, especially with these split zones.

Have you emailed the SST? I'm sure they'll throw your query to Res but at least you might get a (faster) yay or nay.

With J8 and having booked Y+, I think as a P1 you’d be pretty unfortunate to miss out on an upgrade.

Of course there’s always the possibility of last minute bookings and other P1s (e.g. any CLPO) getting upgraded ahead of you.

Just because QF can upgrade P1 up to 7 days out it doesn’t mean they will. You can still have to sweat it out till the gate (if you are travelling solo and applied for an upgrade as late as at the gate).

If QF upgrades you to J they can upgrade someone else to Y+ which would give them more points than simply approving a Y to J upgrade.

7 seats left and 9 on the waitlist, 1 p1 and 3 plats on waitlist.

Looks fine at the moment :)

Can I ask how you know this information? Especially in regards to P1s or WPs on waitlist? Would be considered privileged/sensitive commercial information where I come from?

Edit: I read from your previous posts , you are a QF employee. Word to the wise, be very careful, people in the social media world have ways of finding things out. And no I don't work for QF, its just telling you to be super careful. Unless you don't want your job?

Oh dear, now everybody knows

Now at T-4 days - and no word - so the P1 promise of 7 days for upgrade notifications is not exactly meeting my expectations :)

Still showing the same availability as previously. Load management must still hold hope that 8 seats can be filled by paying pax . Perhaps a call just to confirm your request is still in the system might jog some action

The P1 benefit/promise is 'Up to 7 days where possible", so technically they are still meeting their claim.

I get that they cover themselves, but it is just wrong. When the benefit of a higher tier is the ability to do something extra "if possible", then there is no real solid benefit.

I laugh (and cry) at the thoughts expressed by my fellow AFF people that have not attained P1. They seem to think it would be great.

Am completely reassesssing P1 based on my experiences this last year. It is too early to make a conclusion, but I think that as a guide, I would prefer to have a thousand bucks in my hand rather than P1 status.

They can and do process some upgrades at the 7 day mark but only when the loads are low enough for them to be comfortable with doing so. If you look at the upgrade success thread you will see some posts from P1s who have had successful upgrade requests 7 days out and others who've had to sweat it out for longer. Some routes are easier to get upgrade approved further out than others.

Your upgrade request still has higher priority than WP, SG etc.

Yes, if you're travelling solo you can apply for an upgrade as late as at the gate. If someone doesn't rock up, misses their connection (e.g. due to their connecting flight running late) or is denied boarding due to illness then you'll be around the top of the list to getting upgraded if you haven't been upgraded earlier.

And many are upgraded at the airport.

Pushka, the problem with travelling enough to keep P1 is that you get a bit spoilt. Well, spoilt is not really the word, as travelling often even in J or F gets so bloody tiring....

Where I am going with this is that it is NOT just about the upgrade. If I get upgraded at the door, but then have to sit in the horrid J cabin rows 6 - 8, that is not much better for me than travelling in Y+

I am spoilt. I know that my favorite seats (5b and 5J) are taken, but there is still row 1 available - but I suspect that will disappear before I get my upgrade.

I had hoped to get the upgrade early, so I could secure these seats. That is presumptuous, in that I expect the upgrade. But if a P1 pax with a paid Y+ seat cannot get an upgrade to J when there are 10+ J seats still vacant, then who can?????
