Hey guys,

Just looking for some advice from those that have possibly done a day trip in Cairo.

I have a long trip back from the USA in J coming up and almost 9 hours to kill at Cairo airport. (Sandwiched between 12 hours flying from the USA and 8 hours flying to BKK).

Touch down 3:05pm depart 11:55pm (8hrs 50mins)

Now the lack of booze or showers in the lounge has me thinking that I should possibly have a crack at using my time more productively. There is only so long I think I could be entertained by fruit juice and free wifi.

So I am thinking about heading out to see the Pyramids, maybe for a quick photo op and argue with some locals trying to scam my money for cough tours or artifacts (im just guessing there will be a lot of these types around).

1) From anyone else's experience is it easy to just arrange with a cab driver to take me there from the airport, I understand it can be around a 1hr drive.
I'd be happy to pay extra to maybe have a cabbie wait around for an hour or so then take me back. :-|

2) Or should I look into pre-arranging some type of quick tour with a driver/guide for a few extra dollars?

3) Is 9 hours unrealistic and should I just forget about it and go half day at a hotel and drink some beers by the pool?

Thanks in advance!
