Flying to Tokyo from Brisbane via Cairns with Jetstar on Friday. My itinerary says my Cairns - Tokyo flight departs from T1 (International), but the Cairns Airport website says T1 is currently closed Lounges » Cairns Airport.

Has anyone been to Cairns airport recently and can confirm whether international flights are departing from T1 or T2?

My reason for asking is I am aware Qantas Club is located in the Domestic terminal - I have a complimentary pass I would like to link and use, but if I need to change terminals there isn't much point.

Definitely no lounge currently open CNS International Terminal. Bit of a stroll from
International to Domestic.

The T1 lounge is closed, not the terminal. International flights do not operate from the domestic terminal.

10 minute walk between the terminals. International security and passport control is quick - you can fit in the lounge visit easily.

Especially since your flight from BNE will be arriving at the Domestic terminal in CNS

Its a 5 min walk between DOM arrivals and INT...you may have to re check the bags??
Its only a 10 minute drive to the city if you can find a cab/uber and have a few hours to waste.

Just note for your planning purposes that you may or may not have issues accessing the lounge as a Jetstar passenger as this note is on the complementary lounge invite portal even though it appears you can still link invites to a Jetstar booking:
  • The Cairns – The Qantas Club is not currently accepting Complimentary Lounge Invitations for JQ passengers.
There's a thread here about it:

If you do decide to give it a go could be worth providing your feedback on whether you were let in or not.

How annoying... I am tempted to try but I only have four lounge passes and don't want to waste two if they won't let me in! We have a 5 hour layover in CNS on the way home :(

Perhaps check with the lounge staff at the door whether they'll accept the lounge pass for JQ passenger— from experience I've had no issues linking passes at the last minute even though it says on the pass that you should do it up to 24 hours prior.

RE QC domestic Cairns - Just stay in the terminal, buy yourself something nice for 20 bucks from one of the vendors.

Yet another reason not to fly Jetstar.

It is just a 5min walk between terminals. Since you are flying JQ all the way through, your bags should be checked all the way through.......it is JQ though, so you never know. They might still be on the domestic carousel when you arrive in Japan 🤣.

I've never seen the QC super full and can't imagine too many that are flying onwards internationally, would stay at the domestic terminal, so theoretically it shouldn't be a problem, but everything is touched with sexy fingers where JQ is involved.

No, JQ domestic don't connect any bags to or from their services (including QF codeshares). JQd>JQi and JQi>JQd means you need to recheck bags in both directions.

If you booked QF domestic to JQ international your bag would be checked through.

Does JQ still run any of the Japan flights from places like OOL or CNS as international from MEL/SYD but a stop in OOL/CNS? In that case the bags would be checked-through despite the intermediate stop. I flew SYD-CNS-KIX (I think) on such a setup many years ago.

No, JQ15 and JQ25 originate in CNS.

OMG, JQ is such a cough airline. That's just ridiculous.

Well, problem solved. You will arrive 5hrs before your international leg, but you won't be able to check in until 2hrs before, so that means you'll need to collect your bags and be bored for 3hrs before checking in. The boredom time will most likely be less, because JQ will be running late 🤣 or cancelled 😯. So, no Qantas Club at domestic for you because you'll have your "un" checked bags with you. Probably not worth waiting 3hrs to check in JQi, then going back to QC domestic for an hour, then racing back to go through immigration etc.

Someone further up suggested taking a cab into town for a few hours. You'll still have your bags though, so not ideal. Now if only you were flying JAL, then you wouldn't need bags at all. JAL rents you clothes

Lesson here is don't fly JQ!!!
