Just watched a J-lounger bring Subway in to the lounge and eat it. Interesting decision.... Discuss

There have been reports of others bringing in much more pungent fast food into the lounges previously. It isn't unknown for this to occur.

Have seen it quite regularly in BNE.

People bringing in pizzas food from Wok On Air, Burger King etc. Too each their own.

I've been known to eat a dona kebab in the old T2 QP - nothing in the buffet could come close to beating it.

It's about variety. If you're in the lounges every second day the food offering can become very bland.....

Given the numerous threads and opinions regarding the quality of lounge food, each to their own. Lounges are not managed to make a profit. If anything byo would be encouraged as it would reduce their overall expenditure.

Obviously not there for the food! Comfort and convenience probably. Most people operate on the premise of doing what feels good for them and so they should. A bird in the hand is better than one overhead!

As long as it isn't something that stinks the place out...

Interesting way to look at it.

I could not spend money on food when there is free food on offer. I guess we are all different.

If the best the airline lounges can do is a DIY ham and cheese toasted sandwich, a hot dog or a stew like mixture, they are effectively encouraging people to BYO food from the fast food outlets. Comfort and convenience only goes so far while you are killing time in a lounge.

I'd say >50% of the time (90% for b'fast) the offer is a real downer and I don't bother touching it. I'd rather eat something I wanted rather than eat an inferior product simply because it's free.

I once had a couple on my flight from SYD-MEL bring in a Domino's pizza (!), eat it during the meal service and give the empty box to the FA to dispose of as they were clearing the cabin before landing.

I sometimes wish they had a donna kebab shop in the lounge

Maybe it's because getting a real kebab in ADL is next to impossible.

I can totally relate to this as I have done exactly that myself - taken Subway to a lounge.

I did it because on that particular day, after much travel, I just didnt really feel like lounge food, and the smell of the subway shop made me yearn for one. I ate it in the lounge as I could sit comfortably without crowds, etc.

And in my case it was nothing against the lounge food - I just felt like Subway :)

I generally feel the same. Problem is sometimes the food on offer is not sufficient (read I was hung over and took Burger King into the MEL J lounge).

Daver6, your post reminded me of a time I went into the JAL lounge in HNL, which is the oneworld option there. Had never been into a JAL lounge before, and was hungover VERY badly. They had a small and odd offering (or at least different to most Western lounges), but it included a huge pot of deliciously hot steaming soup. I have always considered hot soup the best thing to reduce the pain. It was fantastic. No subway for me that day. And after a couple of hours there I then hooked into another oddity they had - a huge bottle of JD.

I was sitting with a colleague sipping Taittinger in the SYD Flounge last year when a guy came in with a Macca's brown bag containing Big Mac, box of nuggets, fries and thick shake. He proceeded to demolish the lot in 5 mins and left shortly afterwards when QF 11 was called

About two years ago I went on a Jetstar flight from Oz to Queenstown. The customs guy had a dog (rare to see such diligence in NZ) and pulled up a young lass and asked if she had any food. She then produced an uneaten Whopper from her handbag.

1.- there is no Hungry jack´s in BNE airport (to my knowledge)
2.- No fast food tastes good once cold.
3.- If purchased immediate prior to arriving at the airport, it was still at least 4-5 hrs prior to getting off in NZ.
4.- Even the most newby or intellectually challenged traveller usually realizes that food importation can be a no-no.

I was stunned. Just one question came into my head: Why??
