Can anyone advise of the best place - in terms of exchange rates and lowest commissions etc - to buy pounds and euros in Sydney? Usually buy a few pounds at Travelex before flying, but their commissions/exchange suck big time. Many thanks in advance.

I've used Flight Centre Travel Money on George St a couple of times before and found them very good.

Have you looked at pre-ordering OS Currency via the travelex website? I've used them a few times and found their rates to be pretty comparable with CommBank. Plus I can pick the cash up at SYD airport on the day of travel for no extra charge.

Also you get QFF points if you order via the QF website.

BTW I try and avoid purchasing without pre-ordering from travelex and your right, the rates are pretty ordinary.

Quite a few AFFers have recommended KVB in Sydney so I am going to try them tomorrow for some US$ and Euros. (Apparently no commission and favourable exchange rates)

I did this exercise a few weeks ago. I walked around the HSBC, NAB, CBA & Westpac in North Sydney and found the AMEX travel in the Westpac had the best rates, though pretty comparable to NAB, CBA. HSBC (through Travelex) was about $150 more expensive (when spending AUD$2000) even though I bank with them!
